Anyone raise Roman Geese

There are 2 different African geese. There are the standard of perfection geese "African Dewlap" Then the African production geese who by the way are still African but have had allot of traits bred out of them for more eggs and faster growth. Both are to be without keel from what I understand.
APA The standard of perfection says
African, without keel
Chinese Well rounded breast carried well upward.
Taulouse with keel
Sebastopol without
Pilgrim, American Buff, ect. well rounded breast no mention of keel
The only mention of one who needs to have a keel that I can find is the Taulouse.

So I looked up the Toulouse on the British waterfowl ass website it said
blocky body, with a prominent keel on the breast, (I assume that means a keel bone)
Africans stand much taller and carry much higher.

Sorry waiting for the sun to come up so this gave me something to do. But I will have to post this on APA facebook group and see if I judge can tell me. If its no fat or no bone.

Does it mean a reduced keel or no keel at all? If they have no keel how do they even move their wings? I feel like reality is crumbling at this point!

My two cents' worth: to me, "keelless" should mean that the keel isn't visible, even when the goose/gander is of ideal weight. I'm not an expert in avian anatomy, but a bird the size of a goose without a breastbone sounds structurally problematic.

first answer Every bird has a keel bone. It is the same as their breast bone or sternum
2nd answer With Africans you want a nice tight fitting keel that is smooth & flat. Toulouse have an extended keel that has a busty curvy look.

I can then confirm that Classic Romans “mine at least” are keeless or somewhat keeless. They don’t have proportions like Chinese or Africans but she has a “tight fitting keel that is smooth and flat” or at least that’s what it feels like compared to my toulouse.

Thanks for looking into this. I have some Toulouse and Africans, but the Africans are only about 1.5 months old, so I'll have to compare once they size up a little.

I totally get it. Its been a long journey for me and I have so much to learn and the keel has been so confusing. I was very blessed last year with 4 Holderread day old goslings. They just did one hatch and remembered me. Im trying so hard to bring the white and buff Africans up to standard. But without poultry shows in Colorado this year its all reading. Help with a few facebook groups and for heath all of you here. If you see the group " standard bred poultry support group" on facebook. That used to be the APA facebook group they changed the name to avoid confusion and give support.
But most of all this group it my go to....
