I just got 2 pullets and a young roo.. red sussex.. the coloring isn't perfect--but they do have the white legs.. I wondered if anyone else raises them.. I would like to see about getting some more eggs to hatch.
My middle son raised Red Sussex for around 10 years. As he has gotten older and involved in other activities he has settled on just one breed: Javas.
If you want really good stock, I mean THE BEST, then you need to contact Tom Kernan. Purchase some of his Speckled Sussex and breed them into your Reds. It will take a good eye and some culling to get back to the pure Red, but the size of his Speckleds is outstanding.
The difference is size of the Reds and the Speckled Sussex in the States is tremendous..... I mean you can measure it in POUNDS.
Tom is the way to success if your serious about the breed. I would not waste a single dime purchasing stock from anyone else but him.
