A little true story- A couple years ago the power company was working on the lines outside my house and caused a huge power surge. The power surge literally blew up an old computer we had. No other appliances were damaged because we had unplugged everything that wasn't on a surge protector, but we forgot this one computer so it was ruined and almost started a fire, as well. We filed a claim with our insurance company of 12 years and were compensated for our loss. The insurance company, in turn, filed a claim with the power company and were compensated for their loss. All is well. A year later my house was struck by lightning. I called the insurance company to let them know they would be seeing some claims, but then the damages done were less than my deductible, so I didn't end up filing any claims. I told insurance company that there will be no claims. All is well... or not. The insurance company calls me a few months later and has canceled my homeowners' policy because of too many claims. After 12 years of doing business with them they cancel my policy because of a claim they got reimbursed for and a non-existent claim. I should say after 12 years of taking money from me and me getting nothing in return.
Insurance companies are legalized theft.
