Anyone setting eggs May 1st?

PATIENCE! ... I'm trying to practice it...
We can hear lots of peeping, but no sight of them yet. Broody mama has them under lock and cover. If I weren't afraid of hurting the chicks I might be tempted to lift her a little to see. We tried to temp her up with some grapes, but she won't budge. Of course, she had to be hand fed then.

It's so hard to stay out of the coop. I just want to sit in there and watch & wait. Maybe it should be a school day in there and I can just read to the kids while we watch for the chicks to appear.

Going into lockdown tomorrow Went into turn it one last time and a duck has pipped :D!!!!!!!!!! It's only day 24!!

Yahoooooo!!! The chicks have made their appearance! There are 4 for sure and we think a 5th. It is so adorable watching them peek out from mama's feathers.

Here's some of the first pictures.

Thanks everyone!

It is such a joy having our flock. I'm so glad we get to experience a broody hatching and raising her chicks. I'm also looking forward to our eggs hatching in the incubator where we can see each stage while it's happening.

I took some time this morning to candle all the eggs. Found 4 definite non-chick eggs...one may not have been fertile, the other three had blood rings. I left them for the teacher to eggtopsy whenever she wanted. Heard from a kid later that it was the grossest thing she had ever seen. LOL. Of course, the class I was in was discecting owl pellets and I found out who is squeamish handeling dry furballs with burried treasurers in the (mouse, etc. bones of the owl's meal yesterday). I can see how bloody eggs are more gross than regurgitated owl pellets that were sterilized before the science dept. ordered them.
