Anyone up for a Hatchalong?

Pics
I don't stop turning mine until they have sounded...

Just today I decided to get a set of new thermometers and hydrometers, they all show different temperatures. I feel awful. This means that on day 49 I realized that my temperature probably was never 97.5. I called GFQ and complained about their new model 1588, they will send me a new top. But now what? Whats with my eggs? They are very active but now I am unsure what day to expect the hatch and what is normal

yeah.. it's hard to say for sure if they only have a small hole through the membrane or if they are just in drawdown.. I know mine went through the same "wet paper bag" sounds before they hatched.. but I wasn't willing to drill any holes through the shells since they were acting fine.. so I can't say for sure if they had started to break through or if it was just the sounds from them being in drawdown

I'm not too eager to drill any holes in the shell either, but I brought my end mill and cordless drill in the house just in case, it should gently cut a clean hole in the shell without touching anything inside if I need to lend a hand.

Thinking about it though, I'd imagine that once they collapse the air cell that's when they become at risk of suffocation, assuming the air cell 'pops' in such a way that it falls against the shell and blocks the pores rather than inward against the chick, I'm hoping that's the case anyway. Nature has a way of giving just enough insurance for such things.

so you're on day 49 now?...

I use a drill bit to tap the egg.. I can really tell now when they have sounded.. it goes from a hollow dull sound to a sound that doesn't seem to resonate nearly as much.. and the sound is a higher pitch .. if that makes any sense

I am patiently waiting. If I hear them whistling back I would assume they broke the air sell and would give them 24 hrs to hatch or at least pip the shell if not I am going in

the first day they don't really stand up .. so no worries there.. I leave mine in the bator for about 24 hours (give or take a little) and in that time they learn to sit up and shuffle around a little on their hocks..

mine are about the height of a bottle of shampoo when they stand up.. and if I remember right the sides I added to my LG bator were only 6 inches tall.. so you should be fine

:)

Yes I am on day 49 ....I am kidnapping you and bringing you here to tap my eggs

This is what mine sound like but the big cool spot still remains, mostly along the top of where the air cell is, like the chick is pushing up against the very bottom of the air cell and the membrane along the top of the shell has peeled off a tiny bit, they're both like this. I was expecting the cool spot to more or less disappear or least shrink when they'd torn through the air cell.

I have a little hand drill (pin vise) that I use for blowing out eggs .. no motor.. looks like a screw driver with a drill bit on the end... it makes a super tiny hole and since there is no motor I have to control how much pressure I use and just how fast the bit moves.. so if I ever have an egg I am worried about I can pierce the shell enough to allow extra air to get in

mine is similar to this one

ok.. if you're on day 49 then take each egg out and set it on a flat surface.. whichever way the egg settles place it back into the bator that same way.. so if your number on your egg is face up when you have it on the counter.. when you put it back into the bator have the number facing the exact same way.. the chick SHOULD hatch out from the side that faces up.. if you notice where it cracks along the bottom rotate the egg a bit so the break is facing up a little more to allow the chick room to push the shell off... out of the ones that I have had hatch so far one silly chick decided to hatch out of the bottom of the egg.. so I had to rotate it a bit so he could finish.. the others hatched out through the air cell which was facing up
