Well I have good news, the breeder 2 hours from me finally messaged me back so next Friday I'm meeting them. I'm buying every egg that's layed from them from now until next Friday so anywhere from 2-6 eggs, hopefully 6! The remaining eggs I need I'm going to get from Maryland & I think
NC (Hidden View Farm). Let me know if you know where Hidden View Farm is located, the only one I found online was in Gulf, NC. I have to ask them first but if they can I'm going to have them overnighted by either UPS or FedEx, which after looking it up will run me around $50 each shipment...so that sucks but I just want them to have the best chance possible in hatching! I'm just so happy I'll get to pick up at least some of the eggs.

Remember the seller might not have access to a UPS or FedEx store/location. Priority mail is 2-3 days depending on your location and the sellers. You can also ask your post office about po to po shipments. The post office usually gets the package in a day or two. The label will be your name c/o anytown post office, city state zip code and your phone number to call you when package arrives. Remember it is not only the PO handling your packages it is also the airline ground crew. I had a pair of peacocks sit on the tarmat for 12 hours cause they forgot to put them on the plane ????
I have 7 eggs from 2 sellers. I bought 2 eggs from one seller and 2 from another then 3 more from the same seller. I had one egg that was bad and the seller sent me a new one. So far so good all are losing weight. All came priority mail. One seller "Emufolks" boxes each egg in it's own box then puts those boxes into a larger one to ship. I purchased 5 eggs from them.

Unfortunately not all post offices will do that (allow you to pick them up there).. The postal CARRIERS i have are great..when they see I have hatching eggs in they usually call me (well.. the regular guys do).. however the guys who work the counter at my local post office have been beyond rude (informing me they have better things to do).. The counter guys actually "lost" one of my boxes in the post office claiming they had never seen it and it was sitting on a shelf behind their counter

and before I forget.. I have 7 eggs in my modified LG.. could fit another egg in there.. but I have heat sinks in it and I am waiting til hatch to remove them to give the chicks some room to get out of their shells

Another week has gone by and here are my weights. I did notice that there is a slight odor coming from the side marked "O" on egg #1. That is the side that looks like there is either dirt or smeared dried "poop" on it. But the smell is not on the side with the "X" on it. I am going to wait to see if the odor gets stronger and if it does then the egg will be bad correct? But if it is a bad egg then why is it loosing weight?

I figure bad egg or not, the shell is still able to breathe and so it looses water like it normally would. The 12-15% of excess water at the beginning of incubation is probably just to ensure there is enough water left in the egg to last the entire incubation period without drying out, nature is good at planning ahead like that.

Hi, im in, but I have a huge questions here, I receive a total of 8 eggs, 2 from a breeder and 6 from emufolks or Kalayanaemustates, ok im incubating on 2 LG incubators, have on each not the floor area for water filled, instead I put a glass can with a little bit of water inside. I place then on Jan 27. The huge question is, my higrometer keeps on reading a 60% no matter how many water is in the can, my temperature is between 96.5 and 97 on a termometer mecury tipe, the one that comes with the lg, but the digital one reads a lot lower, 93.1 omg im so confused, I wanted to have at least one babyyyyy. I have a lot of experience incubating peafowl, chickens and phaesants, this is my second emu try, the first one i put them on a sportsman incubator but no luck, I know the mistake was, That I had a lot of chickens egg there too. Please helllp!!!

I'm using a Meade TM005X-M and have found it to be accurate on both temperature and humidity, you might try getting one yourself and it comes with a wireless remote sensor which is super handy, I have the display screen sitting on my desk so I can keep an eye on it while I work. Some hydrometers are just plain garbage and not worth the cardboard they come packaged in but this one is pretty accurate.

The other thing you need to consider when trying to get a specific humidity is it's not volume but surface area of the water exposed to air that creates the humidity, volume just determines how often you'll need to refill the water. I'm using a small cap from a spray can, it's about 1" in diameter and that's turned out to be the right size to get 30-35% humidity and my first weigh in seems to agree. So just try different containers, I tried a small plastic cup which was too large, an empty bottle of Advil which was just slightly too large and then the spray can cap which was perfect. You can also reduce the surface area of a container by setting something inside, you just need to experiment a little bit and find something that works for you.

what is the humidity without any water in it?

if it's still reading 60% when there is no water in there then there's your proof that your hygrometer is worthless.. if it's reading a lot less.. when is the last time it was calibrated and can it be adjusted?
once you know then follow the advice Raptor65 gave

for the thermometer.. the LG one is pretty much worthless.. so if you know your digital is accurate try setting it on top of one of the eggs or set it on something at egg level (not floor level) and see what it reads
