Anyone up for a Hatchalong?

I will be using the Genesis Hovabator, and I have adjusted the temp setting to 97 degrees, and the humidity is 20 percent. Is that ok? How long should I wait to put the eggs in the bator?

Do you have a good, reliable thermometer? I was unable to get the temp in my Genesis down to 97.5 so I incubated in a Brinsea Eco. The lowest I could get the Genesis to was 98.3 and I did put the eggs in it after they had pipped.

I incubated at 97.5 and humidity at 30-35% the whole time.

Can I join?
Just got 2 eggs in the mail today-

This is my first time to try incubating Emus.

Thanks!

where are you reading the temperature? at the height of where the eggs will be or at floor level? (I'm not familiar with that incubator so I don't know if it comes with a built in thermometer or not).

for humidity go by weight loss and don't worry about the actual reading on a hygrometer.. hygrometer readings are only a loose guideline with emu eggs since the density of the shell can vary a lot and the only way to know for sure if the humidity is right or not is by weighing the eggs and monitoring weight loss.
They need to lose a total of 12 to 15% of their weight (+/- 1.2%)
By monitoring the weight loss you can adjust the humidity or relation of egg to fan accordingly.. some eggs will lose more weight than others and some will lose a lot less.. both of which can cause lots of problems in the hatching chick.. so if you weigh the eggs at least every week you can make any adjustments as needed.

With only two eggs I advise using sealed jars of water added to the incubator to act as heat sinks to help with any temperature fluctuations.

you may want to check the link in my signature for more info and see if it helps any.

By the way.. where did your eggs come from?

Morning everyone!

Thanks for the welcome and advice. :)

I got the eggs from here- http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330701150691 The seller was very helpful and nice. He had sent me this link- http://www.redoakfarm.com/index.htm

My incubator temps never fluctuates.
This is my incubator-
Sorry for the poor quality picture, I was using my phone. I wish that I have a real camera.

I had cleaned and disinfected last night with lots of bleach.

I have 3 different thermometers in it- 1 Mercury type, 1 GQF type, 1 Digital type.

They are all saying the same reading around 97 degrees at floor level, But the top of the bator is only around 8 or 9 inches from the floor.

I have taped the eggs on both sides. One is ''D'' the other is ''E'', with o and x for turnings.

No matter what incubator and where I am using, the humidity is always at 20% when I dry incubate chicken eggs. How can I keep the humidity at 30%?

Thanks for all the help. :)

if when you weigh the eggs you find that you do need 30% humidity or higher just add a small container with water.. if it's not enough then increase the surface area of the water.. more surface area = higher humidity

I ended up with 3 local eggs today.. freebies since they are a little old and may not hatch..
The woman I got them from has had them for a week and wasn't sure how old they were when they were given to her.. hopefully they aren't too old and I have one or two hatch.. but if not at least it will be interesting to see how much of a difference there is with weight loss and if I can counter it any

Two are heavily speckled.. so I may have a few issues with them with weight loss.. One is so heavily speckled that I may have to give it a coating of wax or paint over part of the shell if I see it is losing weight too quickly..

I did spray them down with Oxine which hopefully will take care of any bacteria they may have on their shells.

The pictures are pretty accurate with color.. so hopefully you all can get an idea of the difference in the shells

This is G-1.. weighs 683 grams

G-2 weighs 531 grams

Egg G-3 (the one with the worst speckles) weighs 639 grams

:( I'm sorry, there's still hope though...maybe your temps were a lil lower than you thought? That would put them behind. I'm just really worried for you because mine are on day 41 & they very noticeably wiggle around now but there is a chance you catch yours sleeping or maybe they're just not very active, then if only one is a chick then that's less of a chance to I'd think...don't give up...have you some the float test yet? I'd be real curious what those results would be.

Wow yinepu, G3 is pretty interesting & different looking. I saw emu eggs for sale on eBay from TX but can't remember what city, I'll see if they're still on there. They may be close enough for you to pick up or shipping would better in state. I read so
Where they can be viable up to 19 days so I'd say there's a pretty good chance they'll develop. So how many eggs total have you had this year? You're one lucky chick lol!
