Anyone up for a Hatchalong?

Thanks, I think I'm going to make a small hole in the bator to run a pump hose into. I also got one without turners & I think since it doesn't have them that it's pretty airtight. Where 1/3 of my bator is filled in it just doesn't look like much oxygen is there, especially for 4 growing emu chicks & I'd be devistated for any of them to not hatch due to carbon monoxide poisoning, something that can so easily be prevented...any thoughts on where I should put the hole?

give Chris a call... I think for the ones with the turners he had them along the edge of the door.. I'll PM you his number

Polli, if it were me I'd drill for sure. I plan on putting a little hole in my eggs on day 49 anyway for oxygen since my bator makes me nervous where it's so airtight. I don't know much about the water test except for floating eggs mean a chick usually & sinking eggs are duds...I'm not sure how accurate it is. I really hope you end up with a chick...if I had an extra chick hatch I'd honestly send it to you if possible! Did you get your 6 eggs from the same place? I think Yinepu is on to something with shipping damage attributing to your eggs not hatching since you're so far away, I won't even order shipping eggs from someone who is more than like 10 hours from me. From what I've been told as well as through experience, the larger the eggs the more prone they are to damage since that's that much more liquid to slosh around so Emu eggs I would think are even riskier, although I've seen a lot of success with them on here...maybe the distance they traveled helped. I would have them shipped in as many shipments as possible & if from the same person even different times of the day, that could give you that much more of a chance on getting an egg that develops

the emu eggs that I got that have done the best were the ones which traveled the shortest distance.. so for emu eggs from what I have seen.. the closer the better

Mine are on the floor, well ontop of the water tray, they the first shelf. I want to make a frame that will sit on the 4 corners of the first shelf to give me the hieght I need for the second shelf to fit over the eggs on the first. I will post a picture for you. In the pic below you can put 2 eggs on the floor of that incubator right?

Oh yea Yoda you could, actually I can easily fit 3 eggs per level so 9 good sized emu eggs will fit perfectly. I had 3 eggs on top with my other 2 in the middle but once my 5th egg became a dud I just made it 2 on each shelf to even it out.

Well I couldn't get ahold of Chris today to ask about drilling a hole but I think I found another solution. I ran the tubing into the bator then instead of shutting the door all the way I just left a small gap so it wasn't pinching the tube. I'll post pics in a minute to show you what I did better. After doing that I watched for about 5 minutes to see how the gap affected the temp, surprisingly it didn't fluctuate at all but stayed on 99 (the set temp). It even went up in temp since it was initially 96 while I had the door open so that's good. I ended up putting 2 strips of tape on it to cover the gap just in case but it probably didn't need it. The fish aquarium pump/filter I used was at Walmart for $10, it's worth it if it keeps fresh oxygenated air flowing into the bator...
