OK, so I'm making a road trip to get my trio of American Buff geese next week. I'm already planning for next year.

I'm thinking that leaving the egg to be incubated naturally for a week, and then into the 'bator, would help my hatch rate. I don't want to fight the geese after they've started incubating, so my idea would be to pull the eggs, put them under a Muscovy hen for a week or two, then into the incubator. Rinse, lather, and repeat.

Is there a reason this would not work? If it would work, do you think she could cover 6-7 eggs?

I don't know if it'd work but would like to hear what others might say. I have a pair of Pilgrims and have been thinking of setting a few of Lily's eggs under a broody Scovy to see if the hatch rate is helped but don't plan on a bator at all. I'd probably take the goslings fm the Scovy mom as soon as they hatched though.

Our Muscovy is currently sitting 8 of her own eggs, we've never had a broody hen before, but I have to say she is a fantastic mum to be, I think she would have sat goose eggs really well.

Good luck, I will pop by to see how its going

I agree that Scovies make fantastic broodies. I think they are more intent than Silkies, lol.

I would need white Scovies, though...only like the pure whites. Don't flame me!
