Anyone use these types of feeders? Royal Rooster

If your issue is keeping feed off the ground, I suggest keeping the round feeders, and putting them up on blocks or making a shelter for them to hang from.
My birds won't be staying in a coop and run, they will be out free ranging sun up to sun down, so this is just for additional feed support if they want it. Most likely these will be outside the run and just filled up for a day's worth of feed, so empty (crossing fingers) by night time. Just was wondering if anyone had used them before and if 3 would be enough for 13 free ranging birds .

Chickens will share a feeder as long as the pecking order is well established. A dozen birds will do okay with two feeders, that is what, 14 pounds?

However, those are gawd awful expensive for what they are. For $129 you can get a regular American made treadle feeder including the shipping, that holds over 30 pounds of feed. Or a small feeder for under $100 including shipping to most U.S. continental addresses.

Those are good for light birds like banties or silkies or for younger chickens but they are a sure rat buffet and wild bird buffet. And put the feeders in the coop out of the weather, the chickens have time to go into the coop during the day if their foraging is sparse that day.

Kind of like us old foggies going down to McDonald's in the morning for coffee and tell lies to the other old foggies. It gives us something to do.

haha I didn't think about birds! We have zillions, that is definitely a consideration.

I have 1 waterer, I wanted to try it out but was thinking about matching them to the feeder and was curious if anyone had used them.

I can absolutely put them in the coop, we plan to leave the doors open of course -- all our coops have attached (roofed) runs so they can escape to them if needed.

Right now was just trying to get feeders that sit along the walls to give them space in the coop while they grow up. They aren't fully free-ranging yet.

But its not the end of the world, and I am so lucky that for right now at least, they all get along reasonably well. They are right outside my back porch window and I can keep an eye on them all day. Then of course we go sit with them when they free-range for about an hour before bedtime.
