Anyone with a Three-Legged-Cat? I am a wreck deciding what to do with my boy....

Just because your disabled doesn't mean your life is over!!!!!

A great lesson for anyone to learn even a cat!!!!

Well said, OES! Disability is NORMAL and affects all people and animals at some point or other in their lives!

Sorry, new here but saw this thread and thought I'd put in my bit.

I rescued a cat who had to have her front left leg & shoulder blade removed when she was found back in Nov 2011. I got her in Feb this year. She plays fetch, high tails it up and down the stairs chasing after her toys and, when staying at my grandparents whilst I had to visit other family, managed to climb to the top of their 8ft high curtains (wow did I hear about that one when I got back!)

This sounds weird but sometimes I look at her when her left side is facing me and kinda go 'Oh yeah, forgot you were missing a leg for a bit'. She gets around just fine, but a little bit noisy on the way down stairs and I just see it as one less paw with claws to dig into my legs ;D

I'm so glad Fang is doing well and is back to his normal self so soon after surgery :D

Oh my gosh! I just stumbled on this thread by mistake. I didn't realize there was anything on the forum besides chickens!!!! I read the first post about not being sure on whether to do the surgery or euthanize. My computer is so slow and it took me what seemed like an hour to frantically scroll all the way to the end to find out the outcome the whole time saying please do the surgery, please do the surgery.......

I'm a veterinary surgery and anesthesia nursing specialist and i wish i found your thread a month ago. I'm so glad you did it and that your kitty is doing great. Please reach out to me if you have questions or concerns. I'd be happy to help you :)

Awww thanks so much! I might just take you up on that if he starts doing anything weird so don't you forget your offer! hahaha. So far though, everything's just great. He's done just wonderfully.. life seems absolutely normal to him. It's great :)

Oh, here's something you can help me with! I want to buy my vet a nice thank you gift (as she answered so many questions in her off hours). What kind of thing would you appreciate if a client were to do that?

Oh that's easy!!! I've worked in a few vet hospitals and we LOVE anything food related. A client will give me food and we turn into vultures circling a carcass. Do you have an edible arrangements in california? It's soooooo good. Sherry's berries is an online gourmet chocolate covered strawberry place that's to die for. Food is always a hit. How big is the hospital you went to? Is it possible to make lunch for them? I've had clients make us lunch before and it so thoughtful. That's nice too because so many more people were involved in your cats care than just the vet. It's a nice way to say thanks to everyone.

I won't forget my offer for advice either so don't worry! Animals are my passion and I'm lucky enough that i can make a living caring for them. I'll PM you with my contact info.

we will be picking up a new addition to our pet-family next week -- a three-legged kitty -- abandoned by his owners at our vet ---

this will be our third '3-legger' and they honestly don't seem to live any differently than the rest of the kitties --- amazing ---

so glad you had the surgery done --- and that all is well ===

That's so awesome of you!!!

Anyone who has the concern that having three legs will slow a dog or cat down should visit you tube. There's agility dogs with three legs that are great and more importantly, having the time of their lives. It's a leg!!!! They've got three others :)

Fang's two month anniversary post is up!

We are at our two-weeks-after surgery mark, and I just wanted to let you guys know that Fang is exactly how he used to be. He does the same things, walks and runs as fast, jumps up and down from things perfectly, and is just as happy, loving, and active as he always was. I am so grateful for all of your words of encouragement when I was faced with what I thought was a terrible decision all around. :)
