Just wanted to see if there is anyone on MY side. I posted an ad on craigslist the other day looking for a used dog run to make a new safer run for my chickens seeing how they have been picked off one by one by foxes lately. Well just to get the word out I added a note on the bottom of the post with that it is legal to keep up to 10 fowl, but no roosters. I know a lot of people would like to keep chickens (like I did) but have no idea that it is legal. Well I got a FLOOD of rude emails saying everything from no that isn't true to I will be held responsible for my post and there will be consequences. Has anyone ever heard of anything like this happening before? I was pretty upset about the whole thing.

Welcome to the word of political activism.

There is a group of people who have targeted the farm section of many craigslist towns because they do not believe people should own animals.

They flag ads even if they are legitimate, harass posters, and even post pornographic images just to disrupt animal transactions and chase people out of the thread.

This happened recently in Alaska.

YOU DID NOTHING WRONG so keep spreading the word!!!!

I live outside of city limits, but people are still shocked to find out that I have ducks in a suburban neighborhood. I tell everyone who asks that poultry makes great pets. My ducks are quieter and less smelly than my neighbor's dogs. PLUS they make me breakfast every day

Wednesday a customer overheard me talking to someone about buying some of my duck eggs. He told me he and his wife wanted to get a couple of chickens but they were told no. They live in Fountain. I told him to look in to getting ducks or quail

There are freaking HORSES walking down the street in that place on any given day, but you can't have a chicken in city limits.

Yeah, it really upset me. I live in the city and am in a very suburban area. I have chickens, and I just got ducks so it should be interesting. I would much rather any day have my next door neighbor have 10 hens then just one barking dog. Not to mention that last year for the first time ever we didn't have spiders everywhere! That is literally the biggest perk, I don't have to spray poison that my son or other pets could get into. I wish people would just wake up and not be so rude!!!

Maybe we need to have a post that we put up periodically reminding people it is legal to own chickens in the city of Colorado Springs
