I have a rescue chick, figuring the breed is speckled Sussex, very smart already, I'm guessing 2 months old now, has no tail yet etc. So I'm wondering is their breed specific things to look for, like tail growth, comb growth rate coloring male vs female?... etc or a hood website to to find this.
Here she is when I first got her/him guessing a month old here

Very cute!
I have one speckled Sussex hen. She's a terrific layer. Even at 2+ yrs, she gives 5 eggs a week. Her speckles pattern changes every time she molts. Last year the white gathered on her head and neck. Now it's more spread out.
You'll usually see faster comb development in males, more red sooner. But someone posted pics last year of one that everyone swore was a cockerel, and it turned out to be a she! So, you just don't know, but so far, yours looks like a pullet.....good luck!

Iv'e only got one, she's very close to the age of yours July chick. They are very smart and curious. The white on the breast will change to speckles as the bird matures. Males are much less speckled than females. My little female has a very long tail for her size and age. They tend to be very lightweight birds when they are young almost to the point of worrying about them. And the older they get the more speckles. They seem to get along with everybody, but mine is a wee bit pushy with me.:)

That would help, they're kind of hard to sex since they're all different. You can't go by patterns or big legs verses little legs because they're all speckled with a constantly changing pattern and all have stick legs. I wouldn't be even remotely convinced mine is female if I hadn't bought her from a hatchery, and they still could be wrong.:)
Thank you both! Very helpful I'll post a updated pic or video to get more opinions on pullet or roo!
