Anyone with knowledge on brinsea...

I have the brinsea mini Eco. (Eggs are in route!!) I ran it for 24 hours & it held at 99.5 degrees. I wanted to calibrate the thermometer so I stuck it into ice water, THEN realized that it only has marks from 80-106 degrees. I put it back in yesterday and ever since its been running at 98.8. Should I mess with the screw in the back? Each 1/4 of a turn is 4 degrees. I dont want to overheat. But it needs to be a little warmer then 98.8, right? Sorry, I'm new and super nervous/excited to get this just right!
 
Hi! I just hatched eggs in my Brinsea mini Eco (first time using it). I had two extra reliable thermometers that I had used as well, though the glass one did seem fairly accurate. If you want to calibrate the glass thermometer you could get a glass of warm water and make sure it reads the same as a reliable oral thermometer (the type you would check your own temp with) I did have to turn the screw in the back of mine to adjust a few times, if you gently turn it just until it budges, that would be about a half degree for me. It will hardly feel like you moved it, then give it an hour or two and see what it's reading. Make sure you have a calibrated hygrometer as well!

@scflock or @Yorkshire coop maybe able to help you with Brinsea questions as well as they have been using them for quite some time.
 
Thank you. I manually used a screwdriver to turn up the heat just a hair and it's been running a steady 99.5 all day! Shipped eggs came in this morning, in excellent external condition. Now for the inside...I can't seem to see the air cells, but I guess that's for another post! ;)

That's great! I found it really easy to control the temp and humidity throughout the entire incubation period. The only thing that I noticed was that the temp would read lower if I laid the thermometer on the bottom, but everywhere else it was reading 99.5. I had bought some of the kitchen grip liner to place on the inside bottom of the incubator and that seemed to help, and it worked great as a grippy surface during hatch time, too. What kind of eggs are you hatching?

Sorry, I haven't been on for a couple days (sick baby at home). Yes, I have the kitchen liner but I wasn't going to put it in until lockdown. So I will put it in now. That's a good idea. I added the eggs (they are white silkies) and the temp climbed up a bit (100.5). So I manually lowered it and it has been steady at 99.9 for over 24 hours now. Do you think it's okay to leave it at 99.9 rather then mess with it, to get it back to 99.5? Thank you for the feedback.

Any bator is ok to be at 99.9

. When you are used to incubating in an old little giant incubator you just pray that you can keep t between 99-100 lol

The same thing happened with mine, the temp climbed a bit when I put the eggs in. I decided to fuss with it to get it back to 99.5, even though I knew the 99.9 was probably alright, I was just a little paranoid. I hatched silkies, too. They were shipped, though, so I was a little cautious with them. All seven of mine that hatched did so on day 21, none of them had any issues hatching and they are all really healthy, energetic little chicks, I think the incubator did a great job! Hope your little one feels better, my little guy has been sick this week, too:( Keep us posted on the hatch!
 
Lol, ok! I'm just a nervous nelly over this whole thing! I really want the eggs to turn into little babies! :-)
I have a Brinsea Octagon 20, but I'm sure temperature control is similar. At 99.9, I would leave it. My hatch rates actually improved when I raised my temp half a degree. The beauty of using a Brinsea is that there is no need to fiddle with the temperature once it is set. They are famously dependable as far as regulating temperatures, not like styrofoam where you are constantly making adjustments. If it is between 99.5 and 100.0, I wouldn't touch it. You run the risk of over correcting and going too high or low. Being nervous is understandable, but you have a good incubator. Trust it
