Anything else we can do to keep the #'s up?

1. Do your auxiliary lighting in the early AM with a timer rather than in the PM.

2.. Add Christmas lights for more even coop lighting. Use a multi-outlet adapter for the Good Morning show.

we already have a light in there; has done nothing in way of helping production...
We will put on a timer to do earlier light instead of later light...

checked for mites etc today; none noted...

2 eggs today..thats it...2...

one broody on a golf ball...

none molting...

HELP!

This is ridiculous..hubby is about ready to have a fit..we are feeding them and its costing us big
$$ to have all these hens..and they are NOT producing...he said he WILL NOT keep them if they
dont start producing again...

no signs of egg thieves...what can I look for????

So how many hours of light are they getting, then? About 12? Try going to 13 or 14.

Did they molt earlier this summer or fall? If not, I wonder if they are doing a slower molt. Not all chickens look naked when they molt. With some, it's hard to tell. Plus, some chickens eat the molted feathers for the protein, particularly methionine. Your older pullets are due for a molt, unless they've recently done that.

What are you feeding? What type of feed? Scratch? Extras?

feeding layer food (forgot brand)..

no scratch...
extras when we let them free range they eat grass and corn...(maybe several times a wk)...

I cant tell if they are molting or not..they dont look like they are...???

they are getting about 13/14 hrs of light...between natural and artificial..

dont think they did the molting yet...???
