Okay my chicks cam in yeaterday from ideal and they seemed to be fine, but today a few of them don't look so good. Is there anything I can do to get them up and going... sugar water.. anything. One has coloring I really like but I don't think he is doing very well.

Cooked egg will give them a boost especially the yolk.

I keep these two recipes on hand for such things also, these are Dlhunicorn's recipes...

here is a recipe for a homemade Ringers solution from a rehabber (you do need salt substitute though):

1 1/4 teasoon sodium chloride (NaCl, common salt)

1 teaspoon sodium bicarbonate (baking soda)

rounded 1/2 teaspoon potassium chloride (commonly called "Muriate of Potash" >>>Salt substitutes contain mostly potassium chloride)

2 tablespoons glucose (a common source is corn syrup)

add above to 1/2 gallon water

If you do not have that then you can make your own emergency electrolyte solution:
(emergency electrolyte solution WHO):
1 cup of water
2 tsp. sugar
1/8 tsp salt
1/8 tsp baking soda
(make fresh daily)

I also have Avia Charge 2000 that I ordered from Murray McMurray (my feed store didn't carry it. It is a great multi-vitamin, it comes in a powder form & lasts me & my tiny flock.

I've been advised here that sugar water can cause pasty butt so be carefull. Not saying not to use it because i have one that is spradlelegged and not eating real well. She is on sugar water but i'm alternating her with plain water.

Keep them warm with fresh water and chick starter and they should do fine.

You could add the vitamin / electrolyte powder to the water. You can buy it at any feedstore. I have used it before and have not had any negative issues.

There may be some reason this is an awful thing to do but I gave my weak ones water with just a bit of honey in it.
