Hey guys, I’m a first-time poultry keeper who got my hands on my first group of turkey poults last monday on the 28th. Coming straight from the hatchery, they looked good and have been brooding pretty well up until today when I noticed that, while cleaning out their litter, a large part of their beaks were apparently gone. Around the “decayed” part of their beaks was black/brown color that I assume is related to the disease in some way (see image below).
This poult has it the worst out of the bunch, but all three of them have similar stuff going on, mainly on their top beaks.
Other than that, however, they appear to be behaving normally. they still show interest in food and water, though it does appear that their conditions have made it marginally harder to eat.
As for any potential causes, I have noticed that they have been popping in their waterer. I have been making attempts to regularly clean it out, but not being able to clean it out 24/7 has led me to get a waterer with a taller base in hopes they’ll stay out of it.
