My Wheaton Marans are in a small cardboard box in the mud room. Several times a day I start hearing distressed chick chirping, which is a familiar sound when chicks get out of a box and find themselves alone on the floor.
Except these chicks are too small yet to fly out of the box, but when I go in there to see what's wrong, they are in the box all looking up waiting to see me, as far as I can figure out. Because as soon as they see me, they immediately get quiet and start doing their contended little chick peeping.
What am I going to do? I can't carry them around with me to keep them happy.
And there they go again. Gotta run...
