Apparently Vinny thinks he's Michael Jackson...

I've been singing "He can be my ducky, it don't matter if he's black or white" ALL morning!!!!

That one sent me over the edge, full-on lol'ing.. My baby ducks think I'm strange.

I guess Vinny could be called a spotted skunk. lol. sometimes he sure smells like one!

Sorry about getting that song stuck in your head, Mysticalmom!

Vinny is finally starting to get the new quills in his wings from his super long and heavy duty molt. He was the forth out of six to molt and the fifth, Moxy, just started. They've been taking turns. lol. I can't tell yet whether or not vinny will get any white in his wings. Ming Mei's flight feathers all went white, but not sure if Vinny's Will. He's probably got another 2 weeks or so before those feathers will be in all the way.

We have another black runner, Norie, who's about 7 months old now. She's hasn't gotten a single white feather yet (Vinny and Ming Mei started getting white feathers when they were around 7-9 months old). Does anyone have any black or dark brown ducks that didn't get white feathers? Or does it happen to all of them eventually?

I wonder if "Feather Club for Ducks" has some black feather dye available. If not "Hair Club for Men" is always around.

This reminds me that many European gypsies used to get gray hair early. Something in there genes causing this. They used to collect green walnut and mush them up. The paste will dye anything black. My grandmother (born 1920) told me that they used that on the farm to dye clothing black. Black dyes back then weren't that good and it would fade into grey fast. Perhaps the harsh laundry soap was to blame. So they redyed the clothing using walnut paste. They also used it as a wood stain. I find that quite interesting. A friend of mine owns a walnut farm in California. I tell the shop they use to get the green shells off the nuts is black. Quite potent stuff.

I have some babies that hatched out 7 weeks ago and two or three of them have a few white feathers coming in around their necks. Vinny is spectacular!!!

Thank you! He's got a whole white chest with just some speckles of black. His new primary feathers are coming in, but they are coming in black (Ming Mei's came in all white). He's still not done growing in all those new feathers but he's pretty much as voracious as ever.

Edited to add- Vinny was a little sad that he couldn't compete in any poultry shoes with all those white feathers, but I did tell him he could be Michael jackson for halloween and that made him feel better. lol with a red jacket and a sparkly looking glove lol
