I'm trying to make things a little easier on my husband because he's doing all the chicken chores for me right now (I'm a little too pregnant and he does NOT like the chickens). When we ended up with a crossbeak we swapped out our nipple waterer for an open one, but I saw this in another thread and wondered if anyone else's crossbeak can successfully drink from something like this? The height at which it's placed would probably factor in a lot:

I've bought something similar and quit using it as they get dirty so are harder to clean than what I settled on. I use a 3 gallon pail with a lid that is cut in half. My cross-beak hen easily drinks from the pail and it's easy to clean; with 3 hens I dump every 2 days and fill with fresh. I give them a piece of firewood to use as a step-up and often they sit on the top to drink.
