I made it thru the night with the help of my tylenol PM. Baby seems fine this morning. The goose never looked back after I removed her babies. She never did go back to check on them.. She lost so much weight while sitting, she seems to want to do nothing bbut FLY. She is loving it. She can really get up there now. And grass.. she is eating the heck out of grass. lol. and the babies are safe inside so all is good.

I think I might as well write off the 41 eggs in the LG

The temp had been holding pretty well until last Friday. With these pretty days we have had the windows open & I have spent my days trying to get temps adjusted/stable but have been getting up to temps around 98* [overnight drops]. Well, OK, aggravating but perhaps not deadly

This morning the bator was a balmy 91*

NO idea how long. Bet they are gonners, tho'

And I was hatching them for someone else. If it had to happen tho', at least it was HIS easily replaced [drive 30", take 3.5 doz clean eggs out of the nests] eggs in HIS

LG! NOT the precious 14 dozen rare/endangered and birthday eggs I spent a week gathering and drove 12 HOURs bringing home / ordered and had shipped [BD eggs]

Going to go check the LG and then take my flock out to the garden so we can all get some dirt therapy now

Does this look like a RIR to you?

He's the one that had the strange lesion on his hiney. It's all dried up and most likely will fall off or be absorbed.

I saw on a TV show a chicken that looked like this and they called it a silver phoenix. Could it be?

we lost our littlest chick......born the 9th,
It looks like the other chicks smothered it.

here are the others.....

So sad, I candled today and out of 8 eggs, only 2 were developing for sure, and 1 I was unsure and kept under mama. All the rest were scrambled and fed to the dog.

Tomorrow I have 7 eggs saved to go into an incubator with someone else's eggs. I really truly hope they all hatch, so if I get some here I can add the new day olds in with the mama's who will be expecting chicks by the end of the month.

My morning update....Australorps 2/10 - Looks like my first little pip from Day 20 has died in the shell. He made it to half zip around but I have seen no action in the past 5 hours (going into Day 22 now). Quite proud of myself for fighting the urge to help though sad as it is. The second little pip took 22 hours and just emerged after a lot of hard work...looks great and moving about lots. The third basically threw itself out of the shell and is busy visiting all the unhatched. Ameraucanas - 1/5 hatched sofar again just flew out of the shell. 0/3 SLW sofar but one just pipped and I am surprisingly patient now that they have started.
So I am 3/18 with one loss and 14 still hopefuls! Will post photos asap but the condensation on the bator windows makes it tough to get a shot.

Candled the chicken eggs two days ago. Total of twenty four White Leghorns and Easter Eggers, took out one clear, three bloodrings. We'll candle chickens and turkeys both again this coming Sunday when we move them into the hatching trays. When we candled the turkeys at ten days it looked like all thirty five were developing.

.....Alan.

I am using a syrofoam incubator, it's a new Hovabator...someone told me the reason I am not having any success is beause of it...they are trying to talk me into buying one of those LARGE cabinet incubators....I know lot sof ppl. are using the syrofoam ones and having much success..I just need to tweak what I am doing..after all I have hatched out some.

That is quite a story!!

I love seeing everyone's chicks!!! There are so many, and they are all so cute.

Unfortunantly we lost two babies today...the kids decided they needed water, put a waterer in and two fell in

My partner at work answered the phone, he was like "umm...I think this might be for you"...Poor little things were crying so hard.

So out of 20 eggs, we had 8 hatch...two are def goners, one was almost all the way out and then stopped, the other pipped had its little beak out of the membrane and then stopped. 10 are still in there, but I don't have a lot of hope. Not hearing any chirping.

Still the girls (and neighbor kids) are estatic, and we are going to set a dozen more banties this Sat, plus some mixed eggs for SIL from her flock.

While not a really great hatch rate, I am happy for our first try with an LG.
