i am tempted to do an all nighter... but then if the other 3 pip tonight that would be 2 days of no sleep... not gd... i heard peeping from one of the eggs that has pipped internally but not externally yet...

but i will refrain from coming up to my bedroom too often... and just let the wee guys do their stuff...

happy times

stirkle & anyone else that may be interested: Go to page 1 of this hatch-a-long thread to see a list of info that I've collected. If you haven't seen it already, look at the *Hatchability ................ site; there is great info on daily development leading to lockdown.

"Lockdown" is done by me on Day 18, where you stop turning eggs, raise the humidity & no longer open the lid until they hatch. You stop turning the eggs because the chicks are positioning themselves to reach for the air cell when they pip the membrane for their first breath, then pip the shell for more oxygen, then zip the shell to get out. So, the last time I touch the eggs are on Day 18 to position them in egg cartons. Not everyone uses the cartons, but that works best for me.

Today is hatch day!!! Early this morning, before I even noticed a pip, there was a little fluffy baby waiting for me. 5 have hatched so far. 4 mille fleur cochin bantams and a sebright. More on the way! YAY!!!

Yay, congratulations! Looks like some nice healthy (but of course sleepy) chicks! All these cute pictures are making me excited. Gotta calm down, nineteen days to go!

ScratchesWithChickens: In addition to the lil' cuttie pies, there's an egg with the perfect PIP. I was trying hard to find a pic like that & there it is. Thanks!

My broody hen tried to hatch her last egg yesterday by pecking the shell off and leaving baby for dead, I found baby ice cold and barely breathing thought it was a goner for sure, brought in and due to bator having eggs in it, I wrap it in a wet wash cloth an put it under light, after getting busy and leaving light to close I almost fried it, but due to my fast respose and some sugar water here is what came from it
