They are hatching. I have a hen setting on eggs. They are due to hatch today and there is already 1 out and another almost out. I was afraid they wouldn't hatch. She got on the wrong nest about a week ago and when I found her her eggs were cold so I didn't know if they would hatch or not. She will have at least 2 babies. Both of the eggs hatching are blue. Now I sure hope both are hens.

I just finished taking my eggs out of the turner and turned up the humidity! 3 more days and I'll have some Buff Brahma babies!!

I look forward to joining you all at the weekend. I am collecting eggs from our light sussex hens and cant wait to get the incubator going again, i am also incubating some eggs for our local farmer who lent me the incubator before i bought my own. My first lot of chicks are now nearly five weeks and have all feathered up.

Congratulations on your babies!

Day 20 and no pips.......yet.

Kids came running in this morning to tell me there were 2 Dorkings in the Brinsea and 2 yellow chicks in with the black one (australorp). Yes, 2 of the Light or Buff Brahmas hatched out of eggs that had just pipped at 2 a.m. the 2 that have been zipping forever are still not much more zipped than 12 hours ago. The one with the biggest opening/zip is hardly moving. It moves slightly if I tap on the window, but it's not wiggling and pecking like it was last night. That bothers me. Humidity kept at about 70%. I have not opened it at all!!!!! Temp 100, is a Hovabator forced air.

Now I have a total of 4 of the Dorkings hatched. The first one hatched about 36 hrs ago by my guess (happened overnight Mon. night) so I went ahead and put it and the oldest of the other ones in my LG still air with some electrolytes and water. They are drinking so thirstily. I was not thrilled about opening up that incubator, quick as it was, but that one was pecking incessantly at the wet ones and zipping ones, not nicely at all, and since I have to leave I wanted to put her in a safer place. I think she was just thirsty!

Wow, had to pause to watch 2 Aussies hatch simultaneously, bam and bam. Good kids! That makes 3 Aussies, 2 Brahmas, 4 Dorks.

Man are those fuzzies LOUD!

Wow are those chicks in the LG still air "brooder" LOUD!!!!

The domino effect is happening in the Hova Bator. More Aussies are out, and several Brahmas are trying very hard to join them

Humidity dropped again (to 66%) in the Brinsea

so I tossed in a sponge soaked in warm water. Now it's at 80% My instinct tells me the Dorkings need it and that's why they are so slow in hatching. I'm nervous, though, really nervous at how long this is taking. We are day 22, not bad, I can hold out for 3 more days.... (right!)

Total time since first pip is about 50 hrs by my best guess.... Could the seconds of opening the bator even with my relative humidity in the house right now at 65% cause shrink wrapping???? Even when they are already zipping?

I hate not knowing what the outcome will be and being such an idiot newbie!

Time for a nap!

But those Dorking chicks are so LOUD!!!!!

I finally have a chick!!! It's a white rock/ameraucana cross. I also have several more pips. On a sad note, one died after pipping. It had yolk run out all over the bottom of the incubator and when I broke it open to check it out(after watching to confirm it was dead) it had yolk all over it and had drown on some. Could it have pipped through the yolk sac or something? It had pipped the underneath of the egg instead of up to like all of the others. It was one of my pure ameraucanas.

I will put up pictures after more hatch and they dry off a bit. Just got my shipped marans eggs in. I will be setting them as soon as these are finished hatching. They are such pretty eggs. I cant wait!

krstms- congratulations on your chickies, sorry for the one, that pipped badly

Sometimes they go the wrong way, it is like they have no sense of direction.

Not alot you can do about it though.
