peacelover: Hope it is the calendar issue. So, if you set "late" on Mar 29 (late so count day 1 on the next day instead of same day), then 21 days for a chicken egg (chickens right?) would be due on April 19th. Best wishes, I've looked at the calendar funny before myself!

Ok, I don't know what I am doing wrong....everyone here is having success and I am Thrilled for you all. My first hatch with my new incubator I only got 6 babies, cute as can be and growing wonderfully. I read some things that I did wrong and this time corrected them and put 38 eggs in the incubator and only got 4....again cute as can be but this is frustrating.....I AM NOT GIVING UP by no means and will start another hatch probably in another week or so. I did lock down at 18 days,filled the second tray with water, and did not turn the eggs after lockdown or even open the incubator, and still nothing....one chick cracked his shell open, but couldn't make it out....finally on the 24th day, I helped him out but he died....so I just have the 4....please help me.....I will say one thing..I forgot to get a hydromoter to measure the moisture so I am going to get one this week for sure....

Yes, glad to hear that you're not giving up. Hang in there, as everyone who has incubated has & will have their "ups & downs." Be sure to calibrate the hygrometer when you get it, see page 1 of this thread for the post on calibrating. We always strive for perfection by learning. You have hatched chicks, so I see success. I'm having a hard time.

I had to throw over a dozen eggs that were barely developed or did not make it past day 8. I fear a bacterial infection. What can I do to make sure the bator is perfectly cleaned and there will be no risk of an infection again? Is there something I can do to get the interior mechanical parts clean?? I thought I read somewhere about cycling the bator with a solution to clear out those parts but I cant find it anymore. Anyways I made a thread about it and got no answers so I am just keeping my fingers crossed someone on this thread reads it and can help. So sad to lose so many eggs and I am fairly sure its an infection. This is my third hatch and definitely going to be the worst, I hope I get some chicks, if I do I will see it as a success. I cried after the loss of all those eggs, it really gets to you. I feel like I failed those babies somehow.

Candling last night revealed 9 non-moving, and 2 early quitters. Eggtopsy showed 9 of the 11 were shrink wrapped, and 2 were nothing more than a bit of development and yolk.
I think the lower temp and the power outtage took their toll.
I have another 30 set that I will candle tonight or tomorrow.
they were set at 2:00 AM on the the 8th and should hatch on April 29th.

I think we will try something a bit different.
I will be using a little higher humidity 35-40% Day 1-18 (instead of 25-35%) and 75-80% for 18-23. we will see if that helps.

Though I now have 2 broodies (those girls are forever copy cats) I have managed to save a couple extra eggs. Not much, but some. I have someone who is going to be so sweet as to pick up the ends on Tuesday and incubate them for me as a back-up to my broody. I'm going to give him a few silkie chicks in return. I also so happy to have a hatch actually happen... hopefully one well enough that I will end up getting to keep 2-3 extra pullets when its all over and they are all grown up!!!!

(Getting a good hatch or a pullet is near IMPOSSIBLE for me lately, and my favorite quality hen is getting on in years.
