April Hatch Thread--Come Join Us!

No signs of anything hatching here yet. My broodies were due yesterday (if I have it correctly), but I don't want to disturb them too much either. They're two broodies sharing two eggs, everyone says it'll be fine but I'm a bit nervous for what will happen once they're sharing two chicks and not just two eggs....

Gosh this has been busy while I was sleeping!!!!!

No sign of life here but then we are on Day 20 - I did think I saw movement in the eggs but now I just think it was wishful thinking.
I have been stood over the incubator like an idiot watching them for any sign of life?
They are due anytime late tonight throu to tomorrow night? They were set in the evening so didn;t go into Lockdown until early on day 19 rather than late on day 18. I don;t have any idea of the humidity levels as the batteries in the darn thing died yesterday and I dare not open the incubator to retrive it? - So its a guestimation. It was sat at 58 so I am assuming still about that. Once they start to pip I might spray from the vent hole????? rather than open it up to put a sponge in? I am worried that the fractured egg will get too wet and cold.
Though it is heavier on one end so I think maybe dead chick about 14 days? It might surprise us though???

It really can be stressful just to wait!  Anything hatching there :jumpy ?  Hang in there.

Yes we have 6 out. 1 is a quarter zipped and 3 that have nothing yet. I don't think they will hatch since 10 made it to lockdown and being my first go with humidity problems I was expecting some casualties. I am happy with 6 and even happier that number 7 is almost here.

Just wondering about leaving them in the incubator until they dry. Mine don't seem to be drying much. They still look slightly wet. How long is it suppose to take? Some have been hatched for 12 hours.

Oh and what about water. I've tried looking for an answer to how long until they need to go into a brooder and I saw that they need water right away. There is no drinkable water in the incubator so should I be thinking about moving them ASAP?

I think you can move them whenever you want to, as long as you have warmed up the brooder already :) Congrats!

They are fine to stay for 24 hours but you can move them to the brooded as long as they are dry, only shipped chicks need water asap as they are already 2-3 days old when they arrive. It takes quite a while 24 or more hours to be real cute and fluffed up. Congrats on your babies! :jumpy

Have 4 hatched so far since the first one Mon night. One hatched before 11 last night and 2 while I was sleeping. I think one of those was just before I got up and it seems to be the weakest one. I know not to mess with it but it does have the stringy thing hanging from it and can't seem to stand like my others did (leg issue?) Right now he/she is still very wet so I am just watching and hands off.... but experienced peeps should I be worried about this one yet??

5 days go go. My wife candled the eggs for their pre-hatch check and they look good. I'm pleasantly surprised. Taking them out of the egg mover thingy on Saturday.

Fingers crossed!

On a side note my sneaky (*&%^@ hen figured out she can get to my seedlings if she jumps up and down on the chicken wire over my raised beds. Poof. No seedlings. Time for a trip to Lowes to change my raised beds into veggie bunkers.

I am not experienced and only had my first hatch today but I think it'll be fine. I watched my eggs hatching like a hawk today and one seemed a fair bit more unsteady then the others when it first got out. It took a bit longer to stop falling down and rolling around. I can't even tell which chick it was now! They are all from one hen and rooster (white leghorn/lavender araucana) so they are all yellow and looking very similar!
