I wonder if they are dry, but don't look dry? Maybe they had a little yolk on their feathers? Not sure about that...they should fluff in a few hours...

Oh and what about water. I've tried looking for an answer to how long until they need to go into a brooder and I saw that they need water right away. There is no drinkable water in the incubator so should I be thinking about moving them ASAP?

Supposedly they can go 3 days without food or water, but I think they need water when they are fluffed. They can be put into the brooder when fluffed and then you can dip their beak into the water to start them drinking. That should be all they need because they know how to eat on their own, but they have to be shown how to drink.

Have 4 hatched so far since the first one Mon night. One hatched before 11 last night and 2 while I was sleeping. I think one of those was just before I got up and it seems to be the weakest one. I know not to mess with it but it does have the stringy thing hanging from it and can't seem to stand like my others did (leg issue?) Right now he/she is still very wet so I am just watching and hands off.... but experienced peeps should I be worried about this one yet??
How is it now that it's dried off? Don't worry about the cord, it will dry up and fall off soon. I'm working with a chick that cannot stand and has tightly curled toes. If your chick still seems to be struggling with standing or walking you could try vitamin B2/riboflavin to help it.

I had a chick like that and I put it on a really bumpy terry towel in a pie tin and put it in the warm brooder with its buddies thinking that it could at least not feel alone as it passed and when we got back from a 5 hour outing, it was able to hold its head up and stay on its belly and the toes uncurled as they got "stuck" on the bumps and by the next day it could move around and deal with things. Today, 2 months later, it is a thriving bird with no apparent differences . Won't use it for breeding just in case, but it will be able lay eggs.

Still drying it was the wettest chick of the 6 that hatched. Cord is drying up... I will keep an eye on things It seems to be gaining strength.

A total of 6 have hatched (one Monday night, 2 during the night last night and 2 since the kids got up... they each got to see one hatch)... One has a pip but small one so I think I can take a break from staring at the incubator and get something done on my to do list

Just leave it in the warm bator - we had one that didn;t move for 12 hrs and only knew he was alive because the tummy moved slightly. He grew up to be a fine Maran rooster. SO don;t panic yet he is exhausted and just needs to rest. We had to put ours in a wee box inside the brooder to stop the other chick trampling him and we just left him. SO don;t panic.

Oes

Nothing happening here yet a while though the fractured egg seems to have blue veins appearing on it. I am not sure if it is a chick trying to get out or the hightened humidity showing up more fractures? We have a while to go as this is only day 20? - Am crossing EVERYTHING!!!!!!!

I'm just thrilled that my own eggs are doing so well. I've got some interest in my babies hatching fri...sad to see them go but I've got to make room for the ones I have now and the ones I've swapped for.
