April Hatch Thread--Come Join Us!

Day 20, out of 26 eggs 14 have hatched with 3 more pips. Everyone looking good and strong so far. Moved 7 into brooder, 7 still drying in the incubator. All supposed to be black copper Marans but got one blue gray chick out of the bunch. Has feathered legs like a Marans. Wonder if there was a recessive gene in there somewhere that just emerged?

How nice! I tried for Blue Copper Marans and they came out Splash...lol. Congratulations on such a great hatch!

Tonight(Monday) comes final candling and lockdown....temp climbed to 104 today...grr, got it back down but don't know how long it was up. Thinking it is a sure sign something is still alive and growing.
Hoping for at least a 20% hatch rate.
I have a batch ready to put in the bator but have a few eggs over 2 weeks old...how badly with that affect fertility/hatchability? They have been kept under 60 degrees and in an operating turner. I just didn't want to have 8 eggs in the bator so I waited for my hens to lay a few more.

While waiting for my last april-hatchling I took my 1,5yrold outside and spent most of the day caring for our outdoor pets while he played in the mud and stayed on safe distance from our roosters. He's terrifyed of the roosters, one of them came jumping at him by accident once and after that he has major respect for the feathered mafia bosses! Anyways, thought I'd share this shot with you guys, the kid and the horse having a moment: There's something about seeing little kids interact with animals that make me feel all fuzzy and warm inside...
This is the cutest picture ever!

well I'm at day 21, I have one pipping, started about 2 1/2 hrs ago, Hope I have more than one. dropped 41 in the incubator, well did not drop, placed is more like it. The more I read on these forums the more I realize how much I have forgotten about hatching chickens. Maybe I should just get me some broody hens. LoL

Ok well we are now about 3 hours into my first hatching, and alreay starting the zipping. I just saw the little one get mad and put a good size crack in the shell, I think this one wants out and see the world.
