Apron when I can't go 2ft out - question

Hi folks!
I have completed my coop and I am building the attached run. It's in my garden and there are a few spots around the perimeter that I won't be able to lay 2ft of hardware cloth apron due to a couple small trees and bushes. Should I cut a slit in the hardware cloth so it's around the tree base? Or should I just do it shorter in those parts? Thank you!

You can make a slit or cut out a section. They won’t be able to dig through a bush or roots.

I made an apron around my run but it’s only about a foot wide. But I put about an inch or two of dirt on top. I’ve seen where things have attempted to dig but never got anywhere.

Yes.

But as time passes watch for the need to trim out more wire as the tree grows.

Thanks everyone. Right now it's a peony bush that is the main issue (I might just move it to another spot) but there is a small cherry tree that I don't want to dig too close to the roots. I will make a slit and keep an eye on it as the tree grows
