I have been thinking about a system that uses the fish waste and use this water for raised beds. I built a raised bed next to my pond and used the water for some flowers. The soil was well composted pig manure and the plants were great. I was thinking about raised beds filled with Pro Mix and see how that does.

It has worked so far. I just got some hibiscus seed from an old man down the road and his plants beautiful. Some pink, some red and some white.

Also got some castor bean seed. Gonna give them a go.

This past weekend I purchased 30 feeder minnows and 10 1.5" goldfish and put them in the pond for my bass to chase. The bass was hunting like he was starving just as soon as the minnows hit the water. About 20 minutes later I waltzed on over to check on the remaining minnows and goldfish and was confronted by a snake in there with one of the goldfish in his mouth.

We did some looking and it appears to be a rat snake (little guy though, only about 18" long) so I need to get him out of there so he'll stop eating the fish. I don't know if he'll eat eggs or chicks when he gets bigger but I'd prefer not to risk it.
