there are a few local waterfowl rescues in my area that, one in particular, is just LOADED with domestic geese and ducks that have been rescued from area parks that people have dumped their pets shortly after easter. they get tangled in fishing lines, there is one park that punk teens were decapitating the geese, call ducks were being mauled, etc. anyway, i wanted to get a few goslings and found this rescue and called her. no goslings, but plenty of adult geese that need homes. i told her what i was looking for in terms of temperment and she is VERY PICKY about where these animals go, so i feel confident to adopt from her and try to lighten her load, although me taking a few will not even dent what she has.

my question is, biosecurity. am i to quarrantine like any one would with chickens? i never buy adult chickens, only chicks. also, would i need to deworm them and with what? how do you treat geese and ducks for lice and mites, if they have them? i am just don't want to bring in anything to my healthy flock, but want to help these tossed out animals.

I would quarrantine, then watch and see if they have any health problems, then treat accordingly. I haven't had any health problems with my geese, so I can't help with you questions on treatment.
