Aracuana tuft gene

I've heard of this thing that kills aracuana chicks. Can someone please explain?

I have a lavender Araucana chick, almost 2 weeks old. She is not rumpless but has a pompom on her head, and puffy cheeks. She seems healthy. Is she going to be ok?

My genetic book makes it sound like that and the rumpless isn't lethal genes but actually linked to low fertility. And I think if they were lethal, like most lethal genes it would kill in the egg

I see you're a fellow Aussie. Our Araucana are bred to a different standard and do not have the tuffed gene which is lethal if the chick inherits two copies, instead ours are tailed with a beard/muff and a crest which follows the British tailed variety standard

It's also only lethal before the chick hatches, if I remember correctly.
