Araucana + austrolorp = Ameraucana?

It is not uncommon for a breeder to breed into their line traits borrowed from another breed.

However, it has to be done carefully, choosing the right refresher breed, then bred back to the original line keeping the new traits added to the standard traits.

It isn't like you breed an Araucana to an Australorp and immediately get a black Ameraucana.

Ameraucana were developed from Araucana (literally American Araucana...Ameraucana), but more went into it. EDITED TO ADD: Araucana as in the term used to call all Chilean birds that carried blue genes and were imported from South America...of those some had tufts/rumpless, some were tailed/bearded....they were a motley crew and from that diverged Araucana and Ameraucana....to my understanding.

You have to have the beard/muff, comb, leg color, body type, egg shell color (blue), as well as breeding true.

It takes a number of generations of birds to perfect.

That early history of the Ameraucana breed and our club was written by Richard Orr, from Connecticut. He visited my place years ago when one of our Ameraucana National Meets was here in Michigan.
Richard made a few minor corrections to his article and sent the updated version to me a couple years ago.
