Araucana thread anyone?

I do have two blue pullets but am not sure I want to sell them yet. I am focusing on blacks and thought to keep these girls because they have beautiful, classic araucana rumpless profiles. One of them is pretty funny, she thinks I am a rooster and she is constantly squatting for me.

Silver's stern look came from being a mother this past season. I had to pull her nearly grown peeps from her (sold them). She guarded and cared for them a lot longer than she needed too. She was a terror to the other birds! BTW- I do let many of my girls bring their chicks up within the flock. I segregate the new families into a show coop on the floor to give them a couple weeks of privacy. Those wire show coops are great for this and I hope to buy another one at the NEPC show this weekend.

Minnie was abandoned pretty early on and self raised with another hatchmate. The sister got hawked and Minnie carried on but she is on the small size for a LF. I told Lanae about Minnie's grandmother who was small for a LF but all of her offspring were twice her size.

Hi Ann,

I forgot to ask How old Minnie is. She is such a sweet bird.

Silver will be able to raise her own babies here, at least till they get bigger than her and don't fit under her anymore. I have one hen right now whose babies still tunnel under her at night and they are just over 3 months old. It is pretty comical looking to see her try to keep them covered up. She does a decent job of covering their heads but their poofy buts hang out.

The araucana club is kicking around maybe doing a calendar or other fundraising araucana item like tee-shirts. I know I would buy a calendar in a heart beat. Right now they offer mugs with the araucana club logo on them. I would love one with an actual araucana on it but that all takes money. I was wondering how many of you would be interested in a calendar if they had one made. Just trying to see if it is worth their effort.

Lanae
