Araucana thread anyone?

If you get a hold of his telephone number, there's a guarantee of getting in contact with him. That's how I got my Araucanas.

Hey, all! I have a quick question about Araucanas. I just did a hatch from Ann Charles eggs. Unfortunately I only had two hatch but that's okay! They are two weeks old today. One has big ear tufts already and is a silvery color. The other has no ear tufts. Is that common? Do ear tufts suggest sex? Do some just not have them? This is my first time with Araucanas. They're very cute! Thanks!

Nope, tufts do not suggest gender. Tufts are basically a 50/50 gamble - You get some or you don't. The silvery looking one, could you post a pic or describe it better? It may just be a silver duckwing pullet.

Congratulations on a successful hatch! Two chicks can be quite a good turnout for shipped Araucana eggs, and to have one with tufts, yeah!!! What color is the chick who hatched with no tufts?

She (the one with no tufts) looks mostly white/yellow at the moment with a few black specks. The other one (with tufts) is silvery but his wings look white as they are coming in. I thought they all had tufts. How odd! No idea that some don't. I guess that's what I love about new breeds! Always something to learn.

Well, I've learned a lot about the Araucana since I first bought from him. Even if I didn't know a thing about them, The birds I hatched from his eggs are the best looking and tamest birds I have. Gary's got amazing birds, so much so that I just bought the second batch of Araucana's and some buff Ameraucana eggs from him! He's a good guy, after learning all I have, and him being understanding makes him a really cool guy in my book. When I get some more money I hope to get some Araucana chicks from him too.

I love my BBR cockeral in my first batch, he's the king roo in my araucana pen so far and he has started his "dancing" with the girls too!

Oh, wow, that's miserable; at those temps, you're probably going to be breaking up frozen ice no matter what type of water heaters you run (if not, please let me know what type of heating you use). I'm really glad I'm not heading into that weather (sorry Ann!!!!!).
It's so very true about the combs; I spend so much time oiling combs on my single combed birds, and with very little positive effect; I spend just about as much time gazing adoringly at those perfect little pea combs and feeling very grateful for how well they survive the winters without needing any help from me. Araucanas are just awesome little birds.
Good luck Ann- remember, nothing lasts forever, spring will be here soon! Spring and chicks - just around the corner

Hello All,

I haven't been online in a while. I took some picks today of my Araucana breeding pens. So maybe later on I can get your opinions on how I set up my breeder pens.

Here's a pic of a young cockeral, what would his variety be? Blue Red?
