Araucana thread anyone?

Since I trimmed, I am not having fertility issues. My araucana roos do not seem to be slowed down any when they enounter a female with a tail. Fertility is good there to. Maybe higher but I have put that down to mutts being healthier. I usually get a 100% hatch rate with araucana to anything else, and probably run closer to 60 or 70% with araucana to araucana. Course all my pens are tufted to cleanfaced and tufted to tufted.

Love those. I've honestly been a huge fan of the thought of having all three muffs, beard, and tufts. Too bad it still breeds just as true as tufts. (well, the tufted part. . . . muffs/beard is really easy)

Kano,

I love the crest on him as well. I am trying to perfect tufts, crests, rumpless, and blue eggs here. I don't want the muffs or beard, but I like the rest.

Why not. Everyone has things they like. You like muffs beards and tufts. One of the original breeds that went into the european araucana sometimes had small crests.

I hung on to one of my mixed up pullets. She's the black one that has the gigantic tufts and she has a beard and small muffs and she's rumpless so you obviously can have it all. She's not laying yet but once she is, I have enough Araucana roosters that I may pair her with one of the younger roosters and see what happens. I just don't want her eggs mixing with my purebred hens in case hers are blue and they could be, the hens I had at the time were purebred black ameraucana's from some good lines.

I'm not objecting, just curious.

And actually, a part of the European standard for tailed Araucanas requires a crest.

Same goes for Aussie.

Well, I hated to do it but I sold my beautiful bilateral tufted roo and a splash hen to go with him. They went all the way across the country from SC to CA in less than 24 hours! I thought that was great time! I sure will miss the beautiful dude but I still can make more.
