now that my cabinet incubator has been running for a few days no problem i have gone and moved over my turkey and araucana eggs from my hand turned hovabator to the gentle rocking of the cabinet. I hope the change wont upset them too much. when i candled it looked like 10 but they are getting hard to see into some of them, 1 looked a bit different, maybe i only have 9. We'll see i guess, fingers crossed come on april 9th!
How are your new babies lanae? I think you said you had some due when we last talked? Anyone else have araucana babies? I'd love to see some photos

So far I have had good hatches every week this year. I have sold 10 babies to someone close by. That was nice and they have a good home and have done well with the transition. I have hatched about 30 so far with only 3 deaths which is awesome. Two have hatched today and 2 or 3 more are hatching. The two that have hatched have really nice tufts, so that is good. One is duckwing but since it is out of my dom. white pen, I don't expect it to color up to standard. As if it would have anyway. These duckwings are a right pill. I do have several nice silver duckwing chicks that are pullets. None tufted but I am excited to finally be getting duckwings. There color looks good also.
I havn't been taking pics cause the weather and lighting is so bad, and I can't take a good pick under perfect conditions anyway. LOL!
I am hoping to have 4 pullets to keep over for next year and at least 1 cockerel. I have a couple of people who will buy most of the rest so that is good. I am wanting to show a bird or two in the winter at Stockton. I have a georgous double tufted white little guy who I think will do nicely. Not at good as Steve's but is still pretty nice. I have a black pullet that looks really good too. I would love a duckwing to take.
I am super jealous of the incubator Sib. Please post pics when you get a chance so I can drool over my computer screen.
I set 6 araucana eggs in the hatcher on Thursday and all 6 have now hatched. A couple are tufted. One is a double tufted chipmonk and wouldn't you know it, it has a tail. It will probably turn out to be perfectly colored and have beautiful tufts.
My book is complete, I think. I am doing the final read thru for spelling ( which I am aweful at lately) and facts. Is there anything you all would like to see in a book about Araucanas before I send it off for printing?
I have EE vs Ameraucana vs Araucana - how to tell the difference. I have info on blue eggs, rumplessness, tufts, araucana history, and pics of the standard colors of chicks and adults along with descriptions. I have lots and lots of pics of various araucana.
Is there specific info that would be good for those just getting started with the araucana?
great! if you can (and dont already have it) a basic gene addition would be great. not a full out chicken color calculator, but things like rumplessness is dominant so can produce tailed offspring, same for tufts, and maybe even legs, oh and egg color too. all the classic araucana traits, so it can help people breed out the traits they dont need and add the ones to make them to standard...
Just a thought, oh and where are the new chick pictures? hehe

If you haven't already, a chapter with infomation about the breed would be nice. Things such as disposition, behaviors, broodiness, egg size, hardiness...the kind of things you don't know unless you own them. I know these are the very things I want to know about a breed and search to find it, often lacking or you have to look forever. Thanks.
shame too, had awesome color! but i didnt have that high of hopes for it as it was growing in an egg with a burst air cell... other then that the others look ok?
Fingers crossed!

Excellant suggestions. I already have them in the book, but thank you. I was thinking of putting a section in there on shipping hatching eggs. How I package, what to expect, and so on. It came to me as I was packaging two dozen eggs for shipment tomorrow. So I took some photos and have jotted down a few lines about each photo.
Sib,
I am sorry to hear about your quitter. I think of you every time I stare at the eggs in my incubator. I so hope you have a good hatch. Let me know what hatches, colors and so on.
never thought about shipping eggs section, but that would be great though as you cant usually go to the local fair and find some araucanas.
Thanks Lanae, it was kinda false hope when it started developing, it was one of the burst air cells. i had another burst air cell start to develop but poped by like day 3 or 4. So then there were 9... i think... They've gotten so dark some of them that i have no idea whats going on in them. And yet theres a bright blue one with a waxy coating that is easy enough to see through, go figure haha. only 10 or 11 days left to go! fingers crossed for no quitters!
I'll let you know how many of what i have left next time i'm in there.
