So what dose it mean if it hatched out blue hehe...

And yay, finally #6 is out. I'm happy with that, hopefully not all roos! lord knows i'll be hanging on to everyone of them probably till they are mature!

Here are some pics, i dont see anything resembling a tuft!

The 3 chipmunkesque chicks. 2 were from ginger eggs, 1 from silverduckwing (darkest) not sure why they look so much more red in the photo, they look very yellow in person!

Well Syble, I am stumped. I am pretty sure the roo is dominant white, so the chick should be black, but it actually looks like a splash to me, maybe a blue. It doesn't look like there any have tufts. Keep an eye on the chipmonk chick in pic 4. Maybe a tuft there. I get alot of tufted chicks that just have one or two long hair like tufts at hatch and later they go to feathers. My double tufted blue chick that just died, didn't have obvious tufts at hatch, but by day 3 or 4 I could see them. If they don't show up by then, they most likely wont.

I am so happy you hatched some. They look great.

Those are gorgeous chicks. Congrats! I have found that if the chick will be single tufted, it is usually on the left side. In the first pic, the chick (darker striped one) in the lower right appears to have extra fluff on the left.

i'm tickled pink! would have been nice to have 1 with tufts though. I will keep my eyes peeled but not holding my breath haha.

I dont think he's splash, i think its a blue:

I can't tell for sure because he's not properly fluffed yet, but he may have darker blue stripes though. Is he the first from that pen? I'm stoked that i ended up with 50% blues haha, fingers crossed i dont loose any! the turkeys are doing great since they came about hehe, they seam enamourded with anything the chicks try to eat or drink, so the straglers have picked up.
Ah spring!

White chicks often hatch with gray down. You'll know once the little feathers start coming in. Regardless, they are little cuties!

Syble,
What pretty chicks! Congrats to both you and Lanae! Very nice photography too

I've had chipmunk colored chicks to feather out white so don't be too shocked if you see white feathering in a few days.

Hinkjc,
I had never heard that about the single tufts. I'll have to look mine over, the adults I have that have tufts are all bilateral tufts, I think. But, the latest chicks hatched are 2 clean faced and 2 tufted and both tufted are only on the left side, that's interesting. Neurological "things" are sometimes unilateral. Interesting.
It's been years since Nursing school or I might have been able to remember more about some of the neuro stuff.

not sure if we'll get a chance to find out. its not that vigorous. I see it breathing heavy and fast. not sure whats wrong with it?

Does anyone band their Araucana's? I've decided to band my adults and will band the young when they're older so they will be permanent but the only places I've found with the one's that are metal with embossed numbers offer them in huge volume and they're not cheap. If anyone has bought a bunch, I'd buy love to buy some. I can always buy the tool to put them on. If not, would some of you be interested in buying some if I bought them? I can use zip ties for the young ones then put the permanent bands on the one's that are not culls.

I plan to call a couple of places tomorrow with some questions I have and hoping they will sell smaller volume.

If you cannot find a place that allows smaller order amounts, then I would love to go in with you on a large order.
