Araucana thread anyone?

the only reason i didnt chose rudy is because he looks black breasted red, red duckwing, partridge, coppered, what ever you want to call it. Hes a very stunning rooster, but i'm expecting his hens to be more of the duckwing/light brown like the one i posted up a few, which is as far away from the aim as we are trying to get.

Guy (i think thats is name?) on the other hand, looks like a blue brested red, with heavy red leakage (see all the rusty colors on his thighs and breast?). I bet if we had a frontal view he would have mostly red breast! Also being that hes blue based his red is still reasonably strong(blue can wash red out to almost a buff consistency).

Thats why i think the 2 would be the best match to get more like lucy, you never know she could be blue based too (has that buffed-blue tint to me), so you may produce darker red offspring too! Got to love test breeding, thats where you can figure out so much!

Good luck!

The good thing here is that Rudy and Guy are in the same pen. They have several hens so she won't have a lot of pressure there. I'm not thinking anyone would prefer the Degas/Joker pen for her once I saw the photo's that way. It's fairly obvious where she fits in then, thanks guys.

BethG,
They are sparkling white and nice heavy birds too. Even in the dirt floor pen they managed to stay this white. They've been penned up about a week now. I have been getting an egg every other day from Fawn (I know her color) and I think Snowy laid her first egg today. It was smallish and a darker aqua blue color, much more deep colored than most of my others but it could have been bluer

I'm glad they're a bit different so I'll know who the hen is as well as the rooster.

Young cockerel? Hoping so, I need a tufted/rumpless rooster for my black hens. He's 2 months old. No red leakage at this time, here is a chick down photo and one I took this morning. If it's a pullet, I have a back up plan, a fat lil tufted/rumpless blue chick. Maybe they'll both be cockerels

With that much red in the face I'd say its a good chance its a baby cockrrl

. It looks black to me but I swear they keep those yellow feathers forever!! Also the leakage could creep out after the first molt

how's the leg color? If you need a nice rumpless cleaned faced Roo let me know I have one growing out about 6 wks old and looking very dark black with the little green sheen already!!

BethG
Thanks for that offer but my black hens are all clean faced but one so I've been waiting to hatch one knowing it's pretty hard to find a good tufted/rumpless to buy

you all got some nice looking araucanas on here,

Beth sweet chick..love the tufts on her, now she's carrying the lav gene would be interesting to breed her to a pure lav roo and see the out come of her chicks..she kinda looks duck wingishy.

Thanks Charlie!! I will definitely be breeding her to Clyde the clean faced rumpless roo

. Yeah her coloring puzzles me so maybe only time will tell? Take Care, B

I interrupt your regularly scheduled thread to announce that my first Araucana are here! From Lanae, I have a tufted rumpless roo (Gomez), and two clean-faced rumpless gals. They couldn't be prettier in my opinion. They seem really calm and really hungry- so far so good. I'll take a photo of them later so you can see them in all their awkward teenage chicken glory.
