Araucana thread anyone?

Hatching chicks tonight, first to be out and running is a chick from my white pen, one of Snowy's eggs

Several more pipped and ready to bust out.

colors are hard to tell because they are still wet and some not all the way out of the shell. 4 died in the shell right before hatching. These are the last of my "mixed pen" eggs. The next will be from the breeding pens I set up but there may still be a few of the hens fertile from the other Araucana roosters.

Congrats Cathy,

I have some hatching this weekend but they are my pinkish egg project. I cannot wait untill one of the pullets from this project pen starts laying an egg. Come on at least green eggs. LOL!

I don't see any tufted but I don't care, Nigel's tufts will make up for it. I am hoping for a few pullets in this mix......my luck 1 will be the only pullet

I will check their rumps when I move them to the brooder later....

Congratulations on the hatches, ladies.

Lanae, I want to hear more about the pink egg project.

I am in NH, too. I have birds from Lanae (cashdl), and I think if you have the opportunity to get birds from her, it's a good way to start IMNSHO. Hope that endorsement is OK; I called so many people before I found her website, and I wish I'd known of it earlier.

Lanae,
Thanks

These guys were sticky lil chicks. I actually had to give a couple of them a bath and dried them and put them back in the hatcher. They're drying off and seem okay but man, they were the stickiest/gooiest lil guys. I hope they fluff up today. Once they're fluffed enough, I'll put them in the brooder but I may leave them in the hatcher till tomorrow morning to make sure they get a good start. Most of the ones in the brooder in the house are old enough and ready to go to the pen in the barn with lights. I always leave the 2 smallest in the brooder no matter what the age so they can show the newer chicks how to eat and drink and someone larger to snuggle with to sleep. It's working pretty good considering I hatch out small batches. When I move these out of the hatcher, I need to clean it, let it run a few nights and I'll have a dozen to candle and put those in the hatcher that are due to hatch June 8th. These are eggs that my broody hen is setting. She isn't in a good place to safely raise the chicks so I'll hatch them inside and give her another dozen to set them for a couple weeks then remove them and see if she will break from being broody. I bought some eggs from hinkjc that will be here late today or tomorrow and the broody will get a dozen of those once they've settled. Talk about juggling. It works my brain to try and stay on top of it all, especially this morning. I worked in surgery yesterday in the post anesthesia care unit from 7 am till 9:30 pm last night and this morning I'm waiting on a call to go to Joplin (an hour and a half from home) to work at the hospital there. I have been wanting to go help after the tornado disaster but I'm on the show-me-response team and they don't want you to self deploy so it can be more organized. I knew they would be exhausted eventually and they had so many medical staff there without a hospital to work in when St Johns was destroyed but even with all those nurses, there is so much to do there. I'll be working many of my days off there for a while so if I post something weird, just laugh and go on

I already have back up for chores and taking care of eggs and chicks....who by the way are cheeping loudly now, better go take a peek.

ETA- Drying off fine now and they're all just wanting to be held. One is a bit weak but alive.

Wow, Cathy. Way to stay busy. My mom is an RN, too, but she only works two 12's per week- one in the ICU and another at the hospice. She's a machine; I don't know how I'd do it.

I sort of kind of thought about saving for an incubator. But then I regained my dwindling senses. Have to let the human Littles get older first.

Congrats on the hatches ladies. I just put some youngsters out in their coop yesterday. I'll have to get updated pics of them to share. The whites have terrific tufts. I can't wait to see them fully mature.

I love all the hatching going on

Too many broodies and a few are starting to molt

Out of the 17 that hatched I am only keeping 3 for my breeding pen. I just hope they turn out as nice as I'd like them too or hope they will
