Araucana thread anyone?

We have tufts!

The duckwing chick is officially bilaterally tufted. A small one on the left, which one must actually be close to see, the other on the right is pretty visible even from a distance.

for a long healthy life for this one!

YES, LANAE, YES! I want them! I'll call my folks today and be in touch with you soon to talk price and details and what not. I remember photos of your unique triple tufted boy. As I recall, he never did pass that extra tuft on to any of his babies (not that that would slow me down any...).

It's so exciting - I finally, actually, am hatching my own Araucana eggs in large amounts.

After nearly 2 years of having these birds. I've eaten a lot of eggs, sold a lot of eggs, tried hatching a lot, but most of them were either sold early or died early. Except for one, who I eventually culled after several months. He was a very nice boy but the family wanted to downsize.

Anyway, I've got the two chicks right now, hoping for more any day, plus I've got half a dozen eggs in the bator on their second week, and Nearly 2 more dozen waiting to go in a couple days.

My young roos love to chase my young chihuahua back to the house..When they get to the pool deck, they calmly turn around and go back to their area..
They tried that with my older chihuahua, and she just calmly walks past them when they charge at her...I think they are disappointed that she won't play..

Not sure if you can tell in this image. I majorly doctored it, as it was very dim, but is the only one I can see the tufts in.

Mommy Josephine caring for her babies. My broody rumpless Sussex is behind her, who may possibly be the mother to the blue chick.

The blue chick. This one is clean faced.

Daddy Marango, watching over and looking kinda dull in color but still thinks he's hot stuff!

This image also perfectly illustrates something I don't like in Araucana males and am curious if anyone has any experience in. See how his saddle doesn't go very far at all? It's unusual but not uncommon in Araucanas. Personally I don't like it, it is one of the traits my Blue Cuckoo far exceeds in (his are so long they hang and shake around like a skirt) - But I have to ask, does anyone see any correlation between it and tailed vs rumpless offspring?

My flock has thrown tails before, I know that, but I want to find out who is to blame.

No Megan,

So far he is the only triple tufted I have. He is super pretty. His color is nearly perfect. No bleed thru. His tufts are constantly being pecked out and therefor look ragged, but they are there. The girls are all cleanfaced. Most lay nice blue eggs, one not so nice but she is part of the package. Her eggs are huge and her chicks are healthy. I am still setting eggs from that pen. I am hoping for a couple of nice splash to go into my barred pen. Unless I decide to not do the barreds any more.

Illia,

Show a pic of the roo with the skirt, so I can compare. My Ramey roo that looks like yours but redder has saddle feathers just like your guys. The rest of my roos seem to have more saddle feathers.

The white roo and the 2 Dom. White roo seem to have the nicest looking or flowing saddle feathers, they also have the longest bodies. The 2nd Dom. White roo pictured ( pic # 4) has 4 tail feathers but no tail bone.

Megan, The blue roo is the triple tufted. You can just about see the tufts on his cheeks in this pic.

Oh yeah! You're the one with the triple tufted roo

The tassle/skirt saddle I'm talking about. The Black Breasted Red is an Olive Egger.
