Araucana thread anyone?

I shipped 6 eggs in with a couple of pullets I sold that went from Missouri to Massachusett's and so far 3 hatched and the 4th is pipped. They were packs in a box and taped in the bottom of the shipping box. You never know. Maybe live birds are bounced around and tossed and stacked like regular boxed eggs??

I am going to put a cockerel up for sale, he'll be on the auction site here. He hatched barred and still has some barring. One good tuft for sure, possibly a tiny one on the other side. Rumpless, yellow legs. nice pea comb. I think his color is ugly but it's definitely interesting and if he's truly barred, breeding him with a black hen or barred hen might clean up the coloring. I've hatched others that were barred but ended up blue as adults so no guarantee he will stay this way.

Here are some pics I took tonight. I'll start him out at $20. He's a few weeks younger than the white cockerel but he's quickly catching up in size.

Ooooh smoothmule ya just had to offer a blue cuckoo.

Got parent pics? Pics of the front? Wait. . . . Do you ship?

I bet Smoothmule's splash tufted roo I bought is what is helping throw my blue cuckoos. I have 6 cuckoo hens, and 5 are the offspring from her splash roo over Hinkjc's blue hens I hatched out. One of the hens is almost lavender, with some slight cuckoo spotting. These are where my test eggs are coming from

Smoothmule's little roo I bought has produced quite a few double tufted cuckoo hens and splash Roos.

I keep getting a few duckwings, but I don't have any hens that color.

Getting duckwings unexpectedly is telling you you've either A) got splash or blue or black birds who aren't pure and if male would show leakage or B) you've got whites who are recessive and hiding duckwing behind the white.

I'd assume the cuckoo comes from the splash too. Some splashes to some people look pure, when they're actually just a very washed splash cuckoo. Many of Gary's splash cuckoos easily mimic a normal splash.

I see a wheaten in those young chick pics!! Well, okay, it's probably a splash duckwing or something though because it's not dark enough for a Wheaten/BBR Araucana, but anyway, very nice. Love some of those well-filled/plump ones. And as usual, the blue cuckoo.

Yes, I think the blue/red hen threw some of the wheaten looking. I also got this BBR roo from them. He's in my EE pen now. Although he is clean-faced, I just loved his coloring and he's a big boy and a real gentleman to his girls. I'll be hatching out his EE eggs this spring. I wish I had a BBR hen, I'd create a pen for them.

It's funny you said that about the BBR, because I got this roo from them. He's clean faced, but a beautiful, big boy. A real gentleman too. I put him in my EE pen, because my EE roo started getting aggressive, so he ended up on the dinner table. I'll be hatching out his eggs from my EE hens, this spring. If I ever get a BBR tufted hen hatch out, I'll create a pen for them.

Illia,
Yes, I ship. This young cockerel is maybe 3 months now but feathered enough to ship. I planned to put him on the auction here but if anyone in this thread is interested in him for $20 plus shipping, then I won't list him. I did list him on the facebook group. I have sold some that were barred like him that finished out pretty much solid blue. It's been very confusing but obviously, some of my flock is carrying barring for Carmel to be getting them from the rooster she bought from me. I get regular blue chicks too so it may just be a few here that are carrying barring. It hasn't been my favorite because the barring is so messy but I may have to work on it a bit and see if I can clean it up so the barring is better.

I have bred my Araucana roosters to my cuckoo maran hens and gotten Much better barring than the cuckoo hens had but they were sex linked and only the cockerels were barred and they looked like barred rocks in color, they were rumpless and some were tufted. All those chicks went to my friend Yana and she Loves her olive eggers. I figured I'd try a cross with barred hens using my extra Araucana roosters. I bought some barred chicks for the project. If I am going to have some barred/rumpless/tufted I want the barring to be right and laying white eggs, they won't produce olive eggers, they should be bluer eggs.

Anyone interested in this cockerel should let me know within the next week or so. I won't auction him just yet then.

Here is a white cockerel I was going to sell then decided to keep him, like I need another rooster, lol I Love his tufts, they are spriral in shape, kind of like the flowerette shape I've seen in photo's only. So, I plan to offer his dad, Blanco this spring. I want to hatch more chicks by Blanco then he can go. I will still have Casper as back up for the white pen until this cockerel is mature enough to breed. I think I'll name him Blizzard with the way his tufts look

I just got an email from the breeder who bought a couple of pullets from me and I sent her 6 eggs in with the pullets. 4 are hatched out now, the 5th pipped and not sure about number 6 but not done waiting. I think that is pretty awesome odds for shipped eggs.
