Araucana thread anyone?

Aren't araucanas supposed to have willow or yellow legs depending on their base color? I think some of the ones pictured have been crossed with ameraucanas to develop those different colors.

yes I know Daddy Roo's legs are the wrong color. Someone told me that when I first posted a pic of him earlier this year. This is why I asked for some education. I know feather on the legs is not a good thing either

I think one of the big differences is that araucanas have yellow skin and ameraucanas have white skin. That is where the green legs come in and that is a good sign for people to look for when they are questioning if they have an ee or ameraucana. I think it is pretty obvious when a person has a true araucana.

Wow yeah, . . . Slate legged Araucanas. Not something you should let breed further. Still, some cuties in there!

Sounds like you know what your doing. The pet quality have their place for sure, and we love 'em. Some great birds here.

Wow, lots to look over and soak up here, I'm going to have to get back to this thread tonight once the kidos are asleep and see all that I've missed. I'm thrilled with all the new, great input lately.

Am I missing something. I know the white roo had the wrong leg color, should be yellow, but black araucana are supposed to have slate legs correct?

I do not have show quality, but everyone has to start somewhere, and I could not afford show birds, so I would like to know where I need to improve or change.

Are these correct. I have a blue chick that has yellow to willow legs. I think that is incorrect. Is this correct below. If not please let me know.

White araucana - yellow legs

splash - yellow or slate depending on color

wheaten based - willow

black - slate

blue - slate

Thank you, that clears up some confusion I've had. Actually that REALLY makes things make more sense.

Umm, I believe blacks should have black legs.

As for any other color but white and splash, they should all have willow legs.

As pips&peeps said, slate legs are usually from Ameraucanas and indicate white skin.

So blue should have willow legs? Please say yes. LOL!

I thought I had read that araucana should have slate legs but what pipandpips said makes sense based on the actual skin color. I know my black chicks have blackish legs but the bottoms of the feet are yellow.

So.... My wheaten ameraucana hens who have willow legs.... but the one sister has slate legs..... what's that all about? I know not to breed the hens with the willow legs, but now I'm very confused.
