Araucana thread anyone?

None of the 15 eggs hatched or they were delayed, but they were 4 days past due. I had to unplugged the incubator for my flock were tested positive for MG, and I had some of my eggs hatched in the same incubator as with the Araucana eggs. I could not take the risk of the Araucanas become infected. It was hard for me. I will have to cull all of my flock starting tomorrow, and plan to finish by Saturday. :hit

I'm so sorry to hear of that, that is just horrible! I've had to cut my flock back drastically without choice before, but not that much and not for disease reasons. I hope you make it through and recover!

My eggs are in lockdown, hope they truly did survive the power-outage, but beyond that, I've got a whole ton of eggs due to arrive this week and they will be joined by some of my own Araucana eggs to hatch this week(end?) Very excited.

what is MG?

is this the second time this has happened? or am i thinking of someone else?

sorry. sending positive energy.

Mycoplasma gallisepticum is a pathogenic species within the genus Mycoplasma of the family Mycoplasmataceae.
Mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG) infection, a common disease of poultry, is commonly designated as chronic respiratory disease (CRD) of chickens. Despite success in eliminating the disease in grand parent (GP) stock and turkeys, it persists in broiler breeders and broilers in many areas (1). Mycoplasma gallisepticum is a respiratory disease, affecting the entire respiratory tract, particularly the air sacs, where it is localized. It is mainly characterized by respiratory rales, coughing and nasal discharge. Clinical manifestations are usually slow to develop and the disease has a long course. All the air sacs may be involved, become cloudy in appearance, and filled with mucus. Similar exudates may encircle the heart and heart sac (2). Infected birds remain carriers for life.

It is the second time this has happened, and I do not know how I got it this time. I am going to try again, and wait a bit longer this time. But KathyinMo is being very helpful, providing info about Denagard, and how it will make the bird clean of the disease. I am studying about it, and may try it, then have the birds tested again before culling. :fl

Purchase some beautiful Marans from a guy. Within seven days I have to kill my whole flock. Had over 70 chickens. Bleached my pens and let them set empty for 4 weeks. Had to Bleached my pens and let them set empty for 4 weeks to make sure my pens where clean and disease free. Now my chickens are healthy and do not have disease. Have only had one chicken die in over a year and it got impacted from eating too much whole corn. Also, I never purchase chickens from anyone else. I do hatch eggs from others and hope I never get MG again.

From what I have read, once a Flock has MG there is no cure. From what I understand the flock will always be carriers of MG and the weaker birds will die out. All Denagard and other products like it will do is makes the disease go dormant.

I don't think a few tail feathers is a deal killer. You wouldn't show him but he should still produce some rumpless chicks. My blue boy has a couple, they don't stick out like yours but he still has some tail feathers. He produces rumpless chicks even when breed to a fully tailed hen.

handsome boy there! sorry I'm a sucker for blues!

I did a quick candle last night in the incubator and all 7 of the araucanas are still going strong! fingers crossed for a good hatch. this is better then i've done with any shipped araucana eggs before. They're half way now, and due the 9th of march.

Good to hear! Here's hoping for a great hatch!
