Araucana thread anyone?

Ok so here are the oldest chicks I have hatched and raised all from Lanae's stock that I purchased.

Black pullet I think


Silver duckwing pullet


Bluish pullet, cuckoo cockerel, black pullet


solid white double tufted cockerel,

Apparently my girls have all decided it is time to brood! One who has been brooding for a few weeks got that solo chick that just hatched, so hopefully she'll be happy to raise it. But now another has taken her place! With two broody, and one hen sick, I have one hen that is laying. Ah well, at least they make excellent mamas!

here's an update on the odd ball i hatched from coberdor eggs, care to narrow it down for me? it does have the nicest green legs lol. Comparing it to the others i think its a pullet, the splash a roo, and the white a pullet... still not sure if the splash is cuckoo or not. if i breed him to a black hen later will he produce clear black hens and barred roos, or is that another gene?

Looks like a silver duckwing pullet? Not sure, I'm bad at this still, haha.

Is He a bantam or standard ?
We Have Mottled & now some Spangled Araucana Bantams ;-)

Check out two of this years babies. The mottled roo is stunning. He is a mottled silver birchen. The other bird is a roo also I think and has alot going on color wise, but look at those tufts. I have been getting alot of babies with tufts like this. I would love it if they were less pendulous and more upright but really I am not going to complain.

He is a large fowl and going to be fairly big. He is a silver birchen mottled, I have a wild type mottled that is tufted and less mottled and a silver birchen hen that is mottled and tufted. Plus I have a 5 month old mottled that has a red glow to all his feathers but doesn't really have red bleed thru. Most of my mottled are roos, but two are pullets.

Hi everyone, I finally got a picture of my Araucana pullet, Isis. She has a tail, but she also has tufts..does that still make her "true"?
Heres a few shots.

She is adorable and what nice tufts. Yes she is still an araucana. There are tailed araucana out there. While they don't meet the standard of perfection as set out by the American Poultry Assn., they are still araucana.

Thanks I've been getting so many comments on her full tufts. Is it really that hard to keep them full? This is my first Araucana so I'm really new to all this special maintenance I've heard about. Do you think it's a female? She was born March 9th...

Tufts are easy to take care of, just leave them alone. I don't do any maintenance on my birds tufts. The only time they are a pain to keep pretty is when another bird get jealous and picks the tufts out. Not cool. Figure out who it it and move them to another pen.


I am not sure if it is a pullet or a roo. Too young to tell for me.
