Araucana thread anyone?

sorry, I didn't communicate very well what I was asking....do your hatching egg stock get alot of tails or are most of them rumpless typically?

Ah. I've only gotten one tailed pullet from one of my pairings but otherwise, no. I have had two reports of tails coming out of my birds from people who hatched my eggs though. Both were from last year and my flock as changed since then.

Congrats on the eggs from Coberdor! I sadly only have one chick remaining from her after a weird death phase went through that batch of chicks. Don't know what it was, but, I've got one splash cuckoo pullet from her who's hanging in nice! She got her neck slashed open by a mature pullet who jumped in the brooder, and has amazingly healed up nicely. The main luck there is that no arteries or main vessels got cut.

When I hatch again I'm certain to look to her again for more eggs.

I get tails from time to time. Last fall I ended up with several tails and this spring I have a few also. All of my birds are rumpless, 1 roo has 3 tail feathers that hang down but he is rumpless. I hatch from him because he is a unique color and I get quite a few people who would like to have chicks out of him.

I don't keep the chicks with tails. I have a couple right now that have tails and huge amazing tufts. Someone will get some nice pullets when they buy them.

I just sold the rooster in my avatar, so I need to go take down the listing! He went locally to a nice gentleman who definitely knows what a real Araucana is, which is exciting!

That is! I've actually yet to meet a person who does. In fact whenever I sell my Easter Eggers I try my best to make sure the buyer understands these are NOT Ameraucanas. Which often leads to saying they too don't have Ameraucanas.

Thats one funky looking chicken Illia

By the way How are you doing ?

Pretty good. Chicken-related things are going much slower than I'd hoped this year, and I've been super busy with garden/farm related things.

Oh yeah and Marango (yellow and blue guy) is now blind in one eye.

He still gets around and gets the job done but he's more flighty than normal.

Josephine took her chicks out for the first time today, she's so far an okay mom this time around except that now and then some chicks lose her, peep and peep, and the only thing to rescue them is me in the end. They're already getting shy of people, which, is a good thing for now.

Lanae,
I'm not bothered at all by tails or partial tails. What colors are the tailed pullets?
