Araucana thread anyone?

Hows everyone making out!? I've been so busy lately I've lost touch with this thread and thought i'd touch base again. I've finally got a decent assortment out in pens and brooders, I should have 30 or so to choose from for breeding next spring. I need some help on what the heck i've got color wise though, care to take a guess?

beautiful little pullet i think. lovely green legs. Assorted shades of red from deep mahogany to straw, with blue undertones. BLUE BREASTED RED PULLET

Another little pullet, wicked green legs, and although she is dark, shes not quite this dark BLACK BREASTED RED PULLET

I have no idea what this is, I've got 4 or 5 of them though, some have more white, some have a bit of mahogany mixed in, looks male to me. DUCKWING COCKEREL

Motley crew? ignor the 1.5 buff orps in there lol. the light one up front is what the chick that was pegged as a wheaten is looking like now. BLUE BREASTED RED BASED ON WHEATEN

No cooperation, but this little blue has suck lovely lacing, I hope it strengthens as it matures like my orps do! I'm so excited lol

Any thoughts would be appreciated on the rest, thanks!

Those are my best guesses.

My wheatens are changing so much from day to day that I am mystified as to how they will turn out. They are all pullets that I am keeping an eye on and one day they have lots of black and the next day it seems to have almost disappeared. Another month and their colors should stabilize and I will see what they are really going to look like.

Syble, Seems like forever since I have posted on here myself. Things have been very hectic lately as we got caught up in the terrific storms last weekend and were without electricity for several days. Would know that I had 21 eggs in the 'bator when power went off last Friday nite and stayed off til Sunday nite. Didn't get a generator going til Sat. afternoon so eggs sat chillin' in the basement til then. Were due to hatch July 4th but figured they were a lost cause but plugged 'bator up to the generator anyway. Was I surprised when 7 of the 21 eggs hatched in the last two days. A couple of blacks, two "chipmonks" and a pale blue one. Talk about real survivors!

Extraordinary! who knew, araucanas, the cockroach of the chicken world! Glad to hear you got some from that hatch, we've been caught in quite a few nasty storms lately but have lucked out and not had to break out the generator yet, knock on wood!
Stacykins, I'm very excited to see how that one grows up! I have i think 2 more rumpless solid blues? maybe 3 and 3 solid rumpless blacks. I also have a pair of tufted black (unfortunately tailed) that I will pen up next year and hopefully produce some good breeding stock next year! Oh theres a splash cockerel i can use too. I should have enough for 2-3 blue/black/splash breeding pens next year and 1 or 2 fun colored pens lol, just need to get those tufts into my birds lol, always something isn't it?

Awesome hatch for such conditions!

How many here are keeping colors in separate pens and how many are keeping colors segregated for a single color or keeping colors that work well together such as blues, black and splash?

I have my pens seperated by color. I have a red spotty pen ( red splash look), A wheaten BBR pen, and a Silver Duckwing pen. This fall I will be adding another wheaten pen, a black pen ( since I have kept two of my double tufted black pullets and an awesome pure black roo from this springs hatch), a golden duckwing pen, and another silver duckwing pen and a rumpless tufted, crested, bearded and muffed blue egger pen.

I was counting how many 4 month olds have made the 2nd cut as keepers and I have at least 20 birds that look good so far from this years hatchs. 6 of them are Wheaten based BBRs, 5 of them are duckwings, both goldens and silvers, I have several splashs and wild type bbrs that will go in the red spotty pen( about 4), and at least 5 so far for next years blue egger pen.

I am excited with my blue egger hatches this year. Even though I only have 5 or 6 that ended up with all the traits I am wanting, at least 70% of the chicks that hatched this year from that pen were tufted. Thats huge. I have the nicest tufts on the birds that have crests which is interesting. Most ended up with tails or partial tails so I wont be using them next year. I am finding it easier to be critical and cull heavy with the blue eggers than I can with the Araucana.

I hope you all are having a great summer. I will post shortly of my 4 month olds. I took some yesterday.

I have mine separated too. BBR's, Black/Blue/Splash, Lavender, Duckwing, Barred type, Mottled, Ann Charles, and multitudes of projects. I need to cut way back but I don't know how to

Here are a few of this springs babies. I am really pleased how they are turning out. First The araucana

Black 5 month old pullet. She normally has two perfectly balanced tufts, but one side was pecked at and as you can see is starting to grow back. This is an awesome pullet except she is bitchy.

Silver Duckwing Pullet, Silver Duckwing Roo, and Blue Breasted Red based on wild type pullet

Now the Blue Eggers

Blue Egger Roo mottled coloration, Blue Egger Pullet silver duckwing, Blue Egger Pullet Wheaten based red spotty type.

Here is one of my WheatenXWild Type pullets. Her coloring should soon settle more like wheaten, but you can see she has alot going on that I will have to select against.

I will have to go take more photos. Birds were darting everywhere like I was aiming a shot gun at them. Stupid birds. LOL!
