Araucana thread anyone?

Winter is making one last (I hope) push! Back into the 40's again for a few days here in the mid-west. I did take a couple of pics the other day when it was so nice out. This is the next generation. I have kept 2 out of 50ish hatch-lings so far. I have several others that are in the evaluation stage. I have kept one tufted/rumpless barred cockerel and one tufted/rumpless black pullet.

He is watching over her as she takes her bath!

She's a looker!
Looking great!

I love how deep the black is on your black pullet and those jet black eyes - amazing! Barred roo is really cool as well!

Hi
This is the first time we have had chickens and we have 2 gorgeous Araucanas 14 weeks old. Once of them is making a quacking noise and we were wondering if this was normal. She seems healthy in every other way.

Thanks

I am just starting out in the breed so I don't know a lot. You can see four of mine in the posts before you.

They have several breeders on here that are oh, so helpful. Several of them are excellent with Do you have any pictures of your Araucanas?

So happy you have joined out group

Here are some of the little Black Araucanas that I hatched from the eggs granites2001 sent me. If any of you ever have the chance to get some of her eggs get them. Best fertility rate of any shipped eggs I have every put in my incubator. Thanks again Lisa......

The whites and the one blue is from my own eggs.

I am so glad I found this thread FINALLY lol!! We have some Araucanas and I'm wondering if you can show any color or does it have to be the apa Aba colors? Does anyone know how that works with the judges? I have 3 doubled tufted trio but my Roos tuft on one side is not very hairy lol. Let me see if I can post pics. They are about 4.5 months old

I had a bit of a giggle here, as I had the same doubts about my lovely ( Aussie ) Araucana. She makes the strangest of noises which includes QUACKING like a duck, She also makes an odd moaning sound, and occasionally shrieks - usually before laying - a rather frightening sound !! ... LOL. She occasionally has a go at pretending she's a rooster. Well - she ain't a rooster as she's laid 12 very small greenish colour eggs, but has given that up as a bad bet now ( it is Autumn here now and quite cold, so I am not surprised at her reluctance ). My other chickens have backed off providing us with lots of nice eggs too ... which is to be expected with the coming Winter months.

Don't worry, as long as your girl is healthy that's all that matters, and listen out for some more odd sounds coming from the region of the chicken coop.

Good luck,

Cheers .......
