Araucana thread anyone?

No tails that I am aware of in their lineage. But the blue hen has white in her lineage so I was wondering if their offspring would be predominantly white? I would like to get more and I was leaning towards blacks to breed with the two I have. But I wasn't sure. The blue and lavender colors are my favorite, even if they can't be shown in the araucana class. I just love them so going for the standard in those two colors. That's my goal- tufts and all :D

Quick question I have and this seems to be the best place I've found on here to hopefully get an accurate and knowledgeable answer.

What color eggs do true pure Araucanas lay?

Do they ever lay pink or green eggs? Or is the person I'm currently hotly disputing the topic with mistaking her "Americunas" (her spelling, not mine) for Araucanas.

True - purebred Araucanas lay blue eggs. Unless you go to a dedicated breeder you probably are not going to find PUREBRED Araucanas.
There is a fairly wide rage of blue shades from a turquoise blue to a lighter sky blue. The ACA has a card with colors of eggs possible. Obviously the bluer is preferred but there is no particular "blue" listed in the standard. I've had pale baby blue color eggs as well as turquoise colored and the turquoise are generally a deeper, more intense color where as the pale blue are sometimes close to white and wash out a bit towards the end of the laying season.

The Araucana breed originated from "breeds" that laid those other color eggs as well as blue but the standard in the US is for blue eggs. This doesn't particularly mean they are impure bred, just not correct for the breed. This does not mean that pink or green egg layers are Araucana's. The Standard of Perfection is where it states what an Araucana is (or is not) so the SOP is where you must go for that information and the breed is moving forward very well now with more and more breeders getting serious about developing their lines.

Does anyone have an Araucana cockerel or cock that is a light blue with no lacing and no red leakage?
I'm looking for one. I used to have a couple of hens this color and sold them but I'd be very interested in buying or doing some trading.

Can you guys please help me. I have been eyeing this rooster for sale on craigslist for a long while now.
Is he a true araucana?

Yes his wattles are a little long but it all depends on genetics. You want to breed for smaller wattles. He looks to be a splash. His leg color is wrong but he is a good looking bird otherwise. He has a nice back and rump, not too short. I'm not a expert yet but I'm learning. :)
These are my Araucana Roos. My splash has slightly longer wattles.

Thank you. He is only ten bucks so seems like a good deal. I don't breed Araucana but I like know what I have. I think he would make a lovely addition and will add some egg color to my girls.
