Araucana thread anyone?

Had intended to post a couple of pics of my pullets but for some reason they didn't load up my on previous post so I am trying again. Thank you "Smoothmule" for instructing me on the process of uploading photos with my post. All this computer stuff is so confusing to me, guess I'm really just a dinosaur!

Puredelight,
Wow, you have a terrific start there! LOvE the first roo, is that a brown color? I really like that with the golden hackles but they all look really nice. Your Splash looks just like my newest rooster, Spot.
I'm so happy to see more breeders. A couple of years ago, there just wasn't anyone to help me get started. I hope to be of some help to new breeders in my area. Right now, I have 2 people needing a tufted rooster if anyone here can help out.

Congrats!!!! I hope we can do some trading in the next year or so when we start getting chicks to trade or sell.

I have a new baby hatched yesterday. Hoping for more. She was on 4 eggs. No signs of any more pips. Will give her until Monday and open the eggs to see if dead in shell since these were tufted x tufted from the new birds I got while they were in quarantine. have 2 more broodys on eggs too and in the bator too. Eggs in bator are from my non tufted bred to the tufted new birds. I couldn't tell if this one has tufts or not so probably not since that's the way my luck runs lol

you probably want a tailed bird too so you don't breed the spine out of them. I still get rumpless with a full tailed hen and rumpless roo. You can also get some full or partial tailed chick from this cross too.

Let the experts here give you better advice as I am still fairly new to the breed myself and pretty much just know what I have read and advise I have received.

I think that it is easier to get 1 good rumpless tufted roo and three cleanfaced hens, then it is to get a rumpless cleafaced roo and 3 good rumpless tufted hens. Tufted birds are harder to come by. All my birds are rumpless but a tail pops up from time to time. It is up to you wether you want to mess with tailed birds or not. If I had a really good tufted pullet that had a tail ( which I do) I wouldn't worry about breeding to her. She has a full tail ( booo his) put she is a silver duckwing ( everyone knows my weakness for them) and she is double tufted. Her color is soo pretty so far. I am considering putting her in a breeding pen depending on how she turns out in the spring.

As far as short backed birds it can be a problem. I have had a few of those babies. They tend to be the ones that get poopy butt. They also seem to die at the drop of a hat so I havn't ended up with any as adults.

I love the personalities of the araucana chickens. They are so much fun. Definately a breed worth considering.

Lanae
