Araucana thread anyone?

The one that pipped hatched and died about a half hour later

. I have no idea what happened. I knew he wasn't going to make it when I saw how he was breathing. Kind of a gasp every few seconds. there was a lot of blood on the little guy and on the inside of the egg that never happened with any of my other hatches. The last egg is internally pipped and peeping. Tomorrow is day 21.
I don't think I'll try hatching any more until spring although I really want to. I'll keep you all updated on my last lonely little guy.

sorry for your loss. it will be better next time.

Here he/she is! This is my lonely little hatchling. No name yet. He's actually my son's araucana. He hasn't come up with a name yet. He hatched yesterday around noon with a little help from mommy. The membrane inside his she'll was brown and dry. Not sure why, I had the humidity up around 72-74%. It did dip to 65% the night he pipped though.
He's rumpless which is awesome!

congrats, cute chick!

Hi there Araucana lovers, I lurk a lot on this thread, but this is my first post....

I'm looking for some Araucana. At this point, I don't care if they're hatching eggs, started chicks, adult birds, culls - whatever you've got that I can pry out of your hands, er, coop - I'll buy it.

I just finished incubating 40 eggs I bought from a breeder. I couldn't drag myself away from that box of eggs if the house was on fire

.... but today is 23, and not a single pip.

I've been looking for some of these birds in my area for several years. I regularly check CL for castaway birds, but they all turn out to be EE or Ameraucana.

I have a nice main coop, with covered run areas (for the long rainy seasons) and a big hay barn too, birds will be able to free range quite a bit (we have 28 acres) and they'll be spoiled with all sort of treats and good stuff. I have 3 separate coops/pens for breeding different color varieties.

I don't know why I did it, after this last debacle, but I bought 6 more eggs from a breeder in PA......

So, I thought I'd throw this out there and see if anybody has live birds or reasonably priced hatching eggs available. Send me a PM!

Thanks!

Uhhhh.. yeah DITTO!

How common are Duckwing and BBR varieties?

I previously had Salmon Favs, so I'm trying to get my head around some of the color patterns I might have in a future flock.....

What does a Wheaten look like? What's a "Wildtype?"

Wheaten is the same as the "salmon" in faverolles, except that instead of being silver base colored, they are gold/red base color. The difference can be seen in the males.
Duckwing and BBR are more common varieties.
Wild type refers to general partridge coloring without the defining features of a specific variety. Hens usually have patterning through the chest, instead of the rose salmon color of most partridge-based patterns.

Ok, got it, thank you.... I think I like the more traditional color patterns, I'm not really into lavendars and barrs and all that fun stuff.... Now if I can just get some birds for my 3 pens!

I just lost a whole clutch of eggs, but I bought some more. I'll try one more round of incubation.....If it doesn't work out, I'll be in line to buy some birds. Y'all keep me in mind if you have any to let go...
